voice. <strong>The</strong> brim of a baseball cap covered the majority<br />

of his face. “Thought I’d stop by and give you a<br />

little present. You don’t break a blood oath, Benny.<br />

You just don’t.” Tom reached into his backpack and<br />

pulled out a large knife. “You got me arrested. Twice!<br />

I know you told the police I was involved with Jared.<br />

You think I was going to let you get away with that?”<br />

He waited until Benny’s swollen eyes were focused on<br />

him before stepping closer.<br />

“No, no,” Benny managed to groan out despite<br />

not being able to move his jaw. “You bro—” Tom<br />

hushed him, placing a hand over Benny’s mouth. You<br />

broke the oath! Benny shouted mentally, trying to<br />

move his head away from Tom’s hold. You were going<br />

to rape my girlfriend!<br />

Tom was too focused on the knife in his free<br />

hand to notice the fierce glare being sent his way.<br />

“You know what I’m going to do, don’t you? I’m going<br />

to dig this into your throat and drag it all the way<br />

across. You’ll bleed out before anyone has the chance<br />

to come to your rescue. But just to make sure…” Tom<br />

smirked and pressed a button on the EKG, silencing<br />

the beeping. Benny jolted as the cold metal of the<br />

knife was pressed against his throat. He registered a<br />

sharp drag of pain even through the medication and<br />

blood started flowing freely down his neck. “And<br />

now we wait,” Tom smiled. <strong>The</strong> lines on the EKG<br />

spiked erratically as Benny’s heart sped up. He<br />

couldn’t do anything. He couldn’t scream, he couldn’t<br />

move, he couldn’t even bite the hand that covered his<br />

mouth. All he could do was wait, as time seemed to<br />

slow down, passing at an agonizing pace. “Almost
