Benny let out a groan as he slid down the
brick wall that his attacker had shoved him against.
A foot rammed into his ribcage, sending his breath
flying from of his lungs in a gasp. He could hear
his attacker laughing as a hand ruffled his hair affectionately.
“This is what you get, Benny. We made a
promise, remember?” The man turned and walked
away, leaving Benny with pain ricocheting through his
body. Blood covered almost every inch of his face.
His lips and one of his cheeks were split open, his
nose was broken (and he had a fleeting suspicion that
his jaw was as well…or at least dislocated), sending
the liquid gushing down his chin and neck. There was
also a bit trickling down from his hairline from where
his attacker had slammed Benny’s head into the wall.
Swallowing thickly and gagging on the blood in his
mouth, he forced himself to stand. His vision swam
with every movement as he made his way to the other
end of the alley and onto the street. He stumbled for a
few feet until someone caught his arm.
For one terrifying moment Benny thought his
attacker had returned to finish the job, but to his relief
