Introductory
Denmark is a fascinating country full of history and culture
that one cannot bypass. The country is connected to
northern Germany. To the east is Sweden and if one flies
west you will reach England and Scotland. Denmark has its
own language. It also has its own currency, which is called
the Danish Kroner.
There are approximately (as of 2016) 5,707,251 people living
in Denmark. A great amount of people resides in the
countries capital called Copenhagen. The city has
approximately (as of 2016) 1,280,371 people. Copenhagen is
the first carbon neutral capital of the world. It also has one
of the longest and oldest pedestrian zones in the world. The
head of the state, since 1972 is Queen Margrethe II and the
country is one of the oldest (if not the oldest) ongoing
monarchy in the world.
Denmark is considered one of the happiest countries in the
world. The life expectancy for females is around 83 years and
for the men around 79 years. That is very high in comparison
to other countries. Everyone benefits from a free health care
and educational system that forges the path for higher
education. The importance of education and health care for
everyone contributes to a society with the least amount of
crime, which it has less off in comparison to many countries.
The majority of the people are Protestant, yet there are all
kinds of people enjoying various religions or not.
There are also autonomies on where Danish ancestry live.
Such countries include Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
They are now self-governing or what one would call
autonomous constituent countries within the Kingdom of
Denmark. The Danish West Indies also belonged to the
Danish crown, yet they sold it in 1917 to the United States
of America. It is now called the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are
over 400 islands that belong to Denmark of which around
70 of those islands have inhabitants living on them.
There are a lot of interesting places to visit. The founding of
Copenhagen University was in 1479, which has many old
and fascinating educational documents and books to enjoy.
There is also the Tivoli Garden and Dyrehavsbakken, which
are both considered the oldest amusement parks in the
world. We cannot forget the castles and palaces that spread
out throughout the country such as Kronborg, Rosenborg
castle, Christiansborg palace, Frederiksborg castle, to name
a few. If you get tired of visiting palaces and castles then
there is also the Rundetaarn, Nyhavn harbor, National
Museum of Denmark, and the Viking ship museum in
Roskilde. These are but a few sightseeing destinations one
can enjoy.
Danish people enjoy all kinds of food from around the world,
yet they have many delicious foods that they call their own.
For example, the øllebrød is a dish made of rye bread, sugar
and non-alcoholic beer. Another favorite is gule ærter, which
is a split pea soup. There is also grønlangkål, which is a
thickened stewed kale. One of the most common and
favorites amongst its people are the open-faced bread
assemblies, which is called Smørrebrød. These are but a few
specialties the country offers. Denmark is a wonderful
country to visit for vacation or even live in. Don’t hesitate to
research more about the country. There is so much that
hasn’t been shared in this trivia gamebook!
About the Flag
The name of the Danish flag, the Dannebrog, meaning ‘the
flag of the Danes’ or ‘the red flag’, is first encountered in a
Danish text from 1478 and in a Dutch text from 100 years
before that.
According to legend, the Dannebrog fell from heaven during
a battle in Estonia; this legend is mentioned in Christiern
Pedersen’s Danish Chronicle from the beginning of the
1520s and by the Franciscan monk Peder Olsen c. 1527.
This latter relates the event to a battle in 1219, and tradition
has maintained that the flag appeared at Lyndanisse on 15
June 1219.
To honor Denmark, enjoy Flag Day on June 15 th of each
year!

without saying that the sick are looked after and secure and
the young well educated and well trained; where ingenuity is
used to heal delinquents and to mitigate at least the physical
dependence of old age; where there is work for all and some
individual seizure, and men and women have not been
entirely alienated yet from their natural environment; where
there is care for freedom and where the country as a whole
has rounded the drive to power and prestige beyond its
doctrine, national self-love, and unmanageable fears; where
people are kindly, honest, helpful, sane, reliable,
