A MultiSecurity officer attended and reported that the driver of a white Audi A6 lost control of the vehicle and rolled it. The reaction officer requested that someone from Manelec also come out as power wires were also damaged by the vehicle. Control room informed Manelec, fire control and Kowie Towing. Gardmed arrived on the scene but the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene. Manelec was able to temporarily fix the electrical problem. Kowie Towing took the vehicle away. Fire control reported that they were busy at a house fire in Nemato, so were unable to at tend. ý A vehicle was reported stolen from The Lodge in Albany Road on Saturday morning. All reaction officers on duty were informed to look out for the vehicle. Soon after, a MultiSecurity reaction officer reported that he found the vehicle and he was driving behind the vehicle in Albany Road. The reaction officer reported the vehicle owner’s girlfriend took the vehicle without the owner’s permission and bumped the car. ý Last Friday, the manager of Buco called MultiSecurity Control Room to report two men fighting in front of the shop. SAPS were informed and Multisecurity attended. A MultiSecurity reaction officer apprehended one of the men and SAPS gave both the men a wa r n i n g . ý Last Wednesday, Port Alfred High School contacted MultiSecurity to report that there was a suspect on premises in Horton Road. The MultiSecurity reaction officer reported that on his arrival he made contact with the domestic who informed him that she spotted the suspect inside the outside room and the suspect laughed at her and left the premises. The domestic worker said nothing had been t a ke n . ýLast Wednesday evening, a MultiSecurity reaction officer radioed in that a male and a female were fighting outside Kemsley Marine. He reported that the female had a knife. SAPS arrived and confiscated the knife. ýThe MultiSecurity control room received a call from a client in Greenmantle Drive in the early hours of Sunday morning who reported that there had been a break in at the premises and requested a s s i st a n c e . MultiSecurity reaction officers attended the scene who reported that suspects gained entry by an open window near the sliding door at the back of the premises. He reported that a Hurley backpack containing a camera, I-pad, Mac-Book and wallet was taken. The alarm was not armed so no signals were received ýOn Sunday evening, shortly before 10pm, the control room received a panic signal from a home in Alfred Road. The homeowners requested SAPS as there had been a break-in at the premises. They stole a handbag containing make-up, a credit card and an expensive ball-point pen. The alarm was not armed as the clients were still awake. ýOn Monday, a break-in occurred in Muirfield Avenue. A reaction officer reported that the burglars gained entry by the open bathroom window of the flat and bent the burglars bars open. They stole a Playstation 4. ýA business in Best Drive, Albany Road, phoned the MultiSecurity control room to report a break-in last Saturday. The school, Konwaba Training Institute, which is operated by an East London businesswoman, Nandipa Bhayi, is situated at Ndlambe Municipalit y’s conference centre complex in Cannon Rocks. The centre was a white elephant for several years until the municipality awarded a business contract to an agent to run the facility. With the abrupt closure of the school, 28 blind people and two others who are wheelchair-bound had to be removed from the school last Friday, leaving their belongings and wheelchairs behind. Bhayi yesterday confirmed that they had been removed from the centre due to non-payment of rent. The school owes R150000 rent to Siwelele C o - O p e r at i v e . The co-operative’s deputy chairman, Cecil Wentzel yesterday confirmed the closure, saying Bhayi had not been forthcoming with rent payments for some time. “We had to remove them [blind members] from the chalets and put them in the place’s hall, but after she again failed to pay us on Friday, we had no option but to remove all of them and lock the place,” We n t z e l said. When TotT’s sister newspaper the Daily Dispatch visited the centre last Friday afternoon they found it padlocked. All 28 students, who are from Cape Town, East London, Port Alfred and some other parts of the country, were gone. A vehicle believed to belong to Bhayi was locked inside the premises by the landlord. “We will keep that vehicle until we reach some sort of an agreement with her,” Wentzel said. Lutho Xintolo of SACB said it was bad for Bhayi not to be paying rent while she was taking money from the students. “These students were paying money to be here and they expected to get education as promised by Bhayi.” Bhayi confirmed she was struggling to keep up with rent payments. “It’s a struggle that we are facing and if we are not getting a vacant government building to use for these students, we will close the school,” she said. If our sponsors are not coming forward, we face these predicaments,” she said. Asked which sponsors she was referring to, Bhayi refused to divulge their identities. Another SACB official, Thandile Butana, said they didn’t believe anything that Bhayi said. “Our wish is that these students can be taken to better places and not be part of this. It’s painful to see a blind person suffering because of things like these,” Butana said.
