Highfields Junior Rugby League presentations Big crowd at trophy day Concordia becoming AFL destination Concordia Lutheran College is fast becoming an AFL destination in Toowoomba, according to AFL Queensland’s Darling Downs Regional Manager Jeff Neumann. AFL is important in the sports curriculum and a large number of its students have made regional representative sides this year. A good example of the school’s AFL appeal is 15-yearold footballing prodigy and Troy Clarke Scholarship recipient, Zimmorlei Farquharson, who will attend Concordia next year. Highway changes at Kingsthorpe The intersection of Gowrie Mountain School Road and the Warrego Highway has shifted 100 metres to the west as roadworks continue at Zimms Corner at Kingsthorpe. This means that motorists travelling along Gowrie Mountain School Road will be using the new roundabout to access the Warrego Highway. Some of the roundabout exits will remain closed while work continues on the new overpass. “They’ve got quite a few outstanding athletes across many different sports,” Neumann said. Concordia, along with the Darling Downs region, have had another big win with the arrival of AFLW player Sabrina Frederick-Traub to deliver a talent session and present the school’s sports awards at a special breakfast.. “To have ‘Sabs’ there to present not only just the Australian Footballer of the Year, but all the school sports awards is massive for us from an AFL point of view,” he said.“It’s a massive win and all the boys and girls are really looking forward to Sabs’ arrival.” The feedback from students and families around the attendance of Frederick-Traub has been hugely positive and some participants will be travelling up to two hours to attend the talent session, highlighting its popularity in the region. Have a go at bowls Rural Safety Workshops WORKSHOP 2 Working Safely With Animals And Nature Winners of the opening round of Crows Nest Tuesday Night Community Bowls were the Pedal-Pushers, Allen, Buddy and Jim, none of whom are regular bowlers. Winners are drawn out of the hat at the end of play, so everybody has an even chance of success. Games go for a little over an hour and are played under lights at the Crows Nest Bowls Club each Tuesday evening starting at 6.30pm. The green fee is $5 a player. The burgers available from about 6pm are tasty, the drinks are cold, and the company is friendly and sociable. So come along as a team of three, or just turn up on your own, on any Tuesday night until November 28 and you’re sure to enjoy yourself. Defibrillators commissioned in Crows Nest Crows Nest Community Solutions have purchased three defibrillators to be located in Crows Nest courtesy of money given by the retiring board of the Crows Nest Hospital. One of the machines will be located at IGA Supermarket, another at Crows Nest Bowls Club and the other at Crows Nest Childrens Centre to be shared with Crows Nest State School. They were commissioned by St John's Ambulance personnel at IGA Supermarket and the bowls club. The St Johns team are prepared to provide training and CPR free for those who are interested in learning how to use the machines and members of the community are invited to take advantage of the training.
