TO THE EDITOR Credit where credit is due Toowoomba North Labor candidate’s letter of September 4 claims the second range crossing among other things as his party’s achievement. Nothing could be further from the truth. He and his government did nothing about the second crossing in their 11 years in office. It was clearly too difficult for them. It was the LNP member for Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts, and his Federal coalition colleagues who acquired the land and funding for the second range crossing. The Labor candidate when, he was member, was clearly not serious about it. He spoke about it only three times in 11 years. Trevor Watts was serious and spoke about it 36 times in just five years. Mr Watts and the LNP Government, together with their Federal coalition colleagues, secured the funding for the second crossing now approaching completion in 2018. The current Labor Government merely inherited the funding at the last election, after all the hard work had been done. The Labor candidate claimed Wilsonton State High school’s $5million hall as his party’s achievement. In fact, it was Trevor Watts who, in both Government and Opposition, campaigned vigorously for, and famously organised petitions for the new school hall. The Labor candidate, when in government, did secure the purchase of land for the construction of Highfields State High School. Curiously, he omitted this from his list. In fact, nothing more was done throughout his 11 years in office. Trevor Watts and the LNP Government did the hard work. They funded and organised the construction of the Highfields State High School. The Labor candidate claimed credit for his government providing the water pipeline to Toowoomba. It was a knee-jerk reaction, during the massive drought, to the warning of climate alarmist Tim Flannery who infamously warned that, because of “global warming” our dams would never fill again. It did rain and the dams did fill and Flannery was completely discredited. The result was a massive cost over-run for which all Toowoomba and Highfields home-owners are now paying an extra $500 a year for their water, cutely named “Water Connection Fee." The Labor candidate’s claims are inaccurate and unfair. Toowoomba North needs an energetic and capable member with the proven ability and willingness to tackle all the difficult and important issues. - Neil Munro, Toowoomba. Watts pledges better sporting facilities for Highfields Member for Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts, has announced an LNP Government will invest in new equipment and facilities for two community sports venues in Highfields. Under an LNP Government, Highfields Sports and Recreation Park will be supplied with two new catch nets, and Kratzke Road Athletics Oval will receive a new equipment storage shed. “These two local projects are great news for Highfields, and at $34,000, they are great On October 28, I held a garage sale at my home in Crows Nest. They are currently working in a number of villages to build houses and establish vegetable gardens which are then given to the families in need. I will be going to Cambodia as a volunteer early next year to help the organisation do this work. RAW Impact requests volunteers assist them to raise funds to enable them to purchase the materials and equipment needed. I would like to emphasise that the funds raised “These investments ensure our regional community once again shares in the wealth it creates for this state. “A vote for anyone other than the LNP will see the return of a do-nothing Labor Government, and that is bad news for families, small businesses and community groups in Toowoomba. “These commitments are all part of our plan to Build a Better Queensland, by building a better Toowoomba. Helping under privileged families in Cambodia from my garage sale will not be used for my travel costs or expenses. It will go directly to RAW Impact. The amount raised at the garage sale was $1455. I would like to thank the many people who came and bought items for sale. I would also like to thank the people who donated goods and assisted with the event in various ways.
