To celebrate the new Bunnings Warehouse Toowoomba North store opening, residents are invited to join local Bunnings team members for the grand opening celebrations on Friday, November 10, from 5pm. To celebrate there will be a spectacular fireworks display at 6pm on Friday, with lots of fun activities such as a jumping castle, rock-climbing wall and face painting. Toowoomba North residents will also receive a visit from popular children’s characters Paw Patrol, Smurfs and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, including live shows and meet and greets. Complex Manager Dan Olzard said the team at Bunnings Warehouse Toowoomba North is excited to welcome the local community to Celebrate new Bunnings Warehouse Toowoomba North the store and celebrate with them at the Grand Opening event. “Our team members have worked extremely hard to prepare the store for opening and are looking forward to helping customers with their home improvement projects, as well as providing free D.I.Y. Workshops for adults and kids,” said Dan. The grand opening weekend festivities will continue throughout the following two weekends in November with a range of fun-filled activities for the whole family on offer. Around Groom with McVeigh Parliamentary committees are an important part of the work of the Parliament. They investigate issues and bills (proposed laws) in detail, so that the Parliament can be well-informed before making decisions of national significance. Now I am on a number of committees and it’s great that they all have significance for our electorate of Groom. I am Chair of the Select Committee for Regional Development and Decentralisation which will visit Toowoomba early in the new year. We are considering the best practice approaches to regional development and decentralisation of both government departments and corporate groups and Toowoomba and the Downs certainly has a lot to offer. On the Industry, Innovation, Science and Resources Committee we have just completed an enquiry into the potential of automated vehicles in Australia and the roads, rules and regulations we will need in the decades ahead for so called ‘driverless cars’. In regional areas like ours this will be a key issue in the future – will we use them locally and/or to go to and from Brisbane? Also, what many opportunities this will provide for the disabled and the elderly if a vehicle can be called anywhere, anytime? Much to consider! Advertisement The Agriculture and Water Resources Committee enquiry into Irrigation Water Use Efficiency across Australia has seen how our own University of Southern Queensland leads the nation in this research and that our irrigators on the Downs are among the most efficient and productive in the country. The Joint Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade has been enquiry into opportunities for Australia’s trade with the United Kingdom following its exit from the European Union. This holds great potential for our farmers – could we see a return to the high levels of dairy exports from the Darling Downs to the United Kingdom that we last observed in the mid-1900s? And finally the Public Accounts & Audit Committee examines various Government departments’ efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery including here on the Downs.
