33Strong: Leadership D
Established by the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Dubuque has provided
hundreds of individuals from different backgrounds the opportunity to cultivate
community knowledge and develop personal leadership skills.
Leadership Dubuque promotes civic responsibility by encouraging involvement, as well as
increasing enthusiasm and dedication. This year’s Leadership Dubuque class is made up
of 33 participants looking to exhange ideas, share experiences, and build relationships.
The ultimate goal of Leadership Dubuque is for participants to become actively involved
in leadership roles in the community, thus enriching the quality of life and shaping the
future. Below are the valued individuals that make the 2018 Leadership Dubuque class

Honestly so far Dubuque has done a great job adding to the ‘cool factor’ by building
up the warehouse district. I do think it would be cool to continue to grow the farmers
market, and expand the night life. If we could promote more community involvement
to use the connections available to expand events and draw larger crowds. However,
overall, I think so far Dubuque is pretty cool, but then again, I may be bias.
What is HIlary’s definition of a leader?
My definition of a leader is someone who influences people, not by power or
authority but by motivation to maximize the efforts of others to accomplish an overall
goal. A leader must reinforce teamwork, honestly and communication from all
involved to achieve a positive vision for the future. Being a leader doesn’t mean you
have it all, just that your actions encourage, impact, and influence those around you.

This is a college town, I think some sort of night life that is directed at
17-20 year olds with live music, dancing that doesn’t serve alcohol.

can accurately share that with the team. A person who puts forth new
and innovative ideas, but also listens to those around them. Someone
who isn’t afraid to step in and help a team member where ever it is
needed without micro-managing.

deal when they visit a new place).

That leader will weigh the pros and cons when making unpopular
decisions and stands at the front of his/her team to take whatever heat
may accompany the decision. Lastly a leader cannot cater to one
