What were you doing before the band Lazie J
This is Jay
I have been singing and writing since my school days. I also have been in a career
in Sales. Both have gone along well complementing each other. In music, I have
been associated with mainly 2 outfits called The Autumnleaf and now Lazie J.
Both together spanning more than 25 years along with my drummer and
bandmate Manoj who has been my musical partner all along from 1991.
As the singer of the band, how many different influences do you feel like you’ve
had growing up and what do you feel your “job” is?
Many of them...Many greats from the 70s like Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin to
Klaus Meine of Scorpions, Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy, and a few from 80s like Bono
of U2 and Steve Perry from Journey..... But then I keep listening to various artists
and genres because there is so much to listen and enjoy
With Lazie J I do the lyrics, basic scores, and vocals for most of our songs which
will be developed by the band. Manoj and John Anthony who is a one of the most
respected axeman in India also come in with great tunes and finally we work
together to develop it into complete songs...
Was there ever a point in your life where you just felt like throwing your guitar
against a wall and saying “Screw music…..I’m out” and getting into another line
of work or doing something else with your life?
Oh!! Many times....but then you just cannot leave it ....music is in your DNA and
that cant be changed...any job you take cannot be as exciting and rewarding as
writing and singing a few lines to a crowd big or small and see them liking it.
Everyday incidents inspire to write ......so this is a lifelong condition.
