BEGINNINGS
Rich in history and tradition, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United States.
Established in 1909 and having been completely renovated in the early 1990s, the Club is located on the sparkling
waterfront of beautiful downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. A gathering place for avid boaters and community
leaders, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club is also one of Tampa Bay’s most prestigious social venues.
Enjoying a century of traditions, warm hospitality, world-class sailing and outstanding dining, Club members and
their guests not only value and respect its tradition of excellence, they feel it when they visit.

MEMBERSHIP
Our members enjoy the prestige of
belonging to an exclusive private
club which is recognized and
respected worldwide. They value
the personal attention received
from the professional staff, as well
as participation in a variety of unique
social activities. The Club has become
a close knit community within the greater
St. Petersburg area, and its members have
historically developed close social and
professional relationships with their
fellow members, many spanning over
several generations.
CLUB RECIPROCITY
As one of the founding members of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs,
our members enjoy and value reciprocal privileges with over 35 yacht
clubs around Florida. The FCYC reciprocal agreement provides our
members the ability to visit other Council clubs by car or by boat
and receive complimentary dockage for one night, per month, per
membership.
The Club also has reciprocal agreements with world-renowned clubs
throughout the United States and around the world.

activities, an evening of fine dining or
entertaining friends or clients, the
Club sets the standard for
excellence.

THE BEACH CLUB &
MARINA AT PASS-A-GRILLE
Accessible by boat or automobile, and located
near St. Pete Beach on the intercoastal
waterway of Pass-a-Grille, The Beach Club &
Marina offers a casual dining environment
where members can relax and dine indoors or
out. The quaint and comfortable atmosphere
adds to the richness and ambiance of the beach
experience.

THE PINNACLE FOR SAILING
Yachting activities are a major focus of the St.
Petersburg Yacht Club. Over the years, many great
regattas have been hosted by our Club, including
the SORC races and the St. Petersburg to Havana
race which originated in the 1930s. The
Regata del Sol al Sol, a more “casual”
regatta, from St. Petersburg to Isla
Mujeres, Mexico, has been
contested continuously
since 1968. The Club
coordinates and hosts
over 30 sailing events
annually, including
numerous national
and international
regattas, with
competitors
coming from all over
the world. It is not
uncommon for some
of our regattas to draw
over 200 competing boats
- all striving to win one of
the Club’s annual or perpetual
trophies.
SPYC also boasts a number of famed
members who have brought home gold
from the Olympics, sailed and
coached in the America’s Cup,
and who have built world renowned
sail and power boats.
Our Cruising Fleet monthly
navigates to other yacht clubs and
marinas around Florida to enjoy the
camaraderie and adventure of organized
cruising. The cruiser navigation group
also enjoy their powerboats through predicted
log competition where they compete among
themselves on a regular basis.
JUNIOR SAILING
PROGRAM
The Junior Sailing program, sponsored by
the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, is rated as
one of the finest in the country and offers
different levels of sailing instruction from
beginner to advanced. Every summer the
Club hosts a fun and educational “Learn to
Sail” summer camp which is open to any youth
with an interest in sailing, and usually generates
over 300 participants. In addition to the “Learn to
Sail” program, our active and energetic SPYC Junior
Sailing team competes nationally and internationally and
always produces winners.

ACTIVITIES FOR ALL
The Sailing Center, on the water at Demens
Landing, is a marvelous facility and is the
hub of the Club’s sailing activity. Over thirty
Club-owned boats are housed at the Sailing
Center and are available for use by SPYC
members.
The “Salty Sisters” women’s sailing group
is believed to be the first organized group
of lady sailors in the country, having been
formed in 1951. The Salty Sisters compete in
both inter-club and intra-club races.
Socially, the Club regularly offers activities
for members and their families, particularly
around major holidays, such as Christmas,
Easter, Mother’s Day, Fourth of July and
Thanksgiving. Our goal is for all ages to find
enjoyment in the Club’s events and to create
family memories that will last a lifetime.
Individual member interests are organized
and fostered among “Clubs within the
Club.” SPYC Members coordinate all kinds
of special interest groups such as: Antique
Motor Club, The Intermediates, a group
of individuals ages 21 - 35 who organize
fun-filled events to energize the younger
generation, Wing Shooters Society, Golf
Club, Flying Club, Amateur Radio Club,
Women’s Beach Club, Fishing Club and
numerous other special interest groups.

SOCIAL EVENTS
The Tampa Bay social scene would simply not be complete
without the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. Major events,
such as the New Year’s Eve Gala and the Commodore’s
Ball are highlights of the social season. More casual
themed events are held regularly, such as Happy
Hours, Family Dining Night, Trivia Night, and so
many more.
The Wine Society and quarterly gourmet
wine dinners are also very popular
in addition to frequently organized
excursions to performing art centers
and professional sporting events.
The Club prides itself on creating
an environment that fosters social
activities for all members and many
different interests.
DINING
Members may dine in the casual Grille 1909 room and enjoy a beautiful
waterfront view or in the more formal Commodore Dining Room, where
they may be entertained by live piano music in the Piano Lounge. The
Heritage Lounge is a wonderful place to relax with friends while enjoying
a beverage or your favorite snack. In the evenings, a live band plays for
listening or dancing pleasure and the ever popular Tiki Bar on the pool
deck offers a unique, casual, island getaway in a downtown setting with a
fantastic view of St. Petersburg, and Tampa Bay.
The Club’s premier location on the waterfront of the revitalized downtown
St. Petersburg area is not only a beautiful setting, but its proximity
to parks, shopping and entertainment facilities make it an excellent
destination by boat or by land.
CATERING TO MEMBERS NEEDS
The Club’s excellent banquet facilities can accommodate intimate
gatherings of a few or grand affairs of three hundred or more guests.
A professional Catering Director assists members with every detail from
beginning to end. The Club’s distinguished facilities have been the venue
of choice for weddings, private banquets, business seminars as well as
local, regional and national political, charity and social events.

THE TRADITION CONTINUES
The St. Petersburg Yacht Club combines the best
elements of prestige and tradition with unique desires
and needs of today’s discerning members. The Club’s
proud yachting heritage provides the backdrop for a
very special place where members come to relax and
enjoy themselves. Our professional staff believes that
each member holds a special position within the Club,
and is treated accordingly.
