Mid-Autumn Festival gives a family reunion
feeling to overseas Chinese; this makes the
festive period more popular in Australia. The
full moon indeed reminds us of our home
country, as portrayed in the famous poem
Water Songby Su Shi which later turned
into a popular song by Teressa Tang.
"May we all be blessed with longevity,
Though thousands of miles apart, we are
still able to share the beauty of the moon
together."highlights the dearly unforgettable
inter-personal relation. But the gunman
massacre happened in Las Vegas on
Monday killing 59 and wounding more than
500 shocked the world. The motive, by the
terrorist or not, was still uncertain.
Many jump to the issue of gun ban as a
safetynet. Some believe unavoidably there
could be many other killing tools other than
gun; such as truck rampage or setting of
fire among crowd of people. So restriction
of gun use might not solve all problems
although that may offer more with peace of
mind.
I think the fundamental rot came from
egoism and self-ness where everyone else
could be put aside, let alone love and care.
It is truly the rising of self-centeredness
that prevents us from seeing the importance
of family as an entity even to the extent that
children could do without parents. It is this
egoism to treat publicly anyone with different
political stance as deadly wrong.
I was deeply troubled by the indifferent
attitude of the society on the ground that it's
others concern not mine.
Mid-Autumn festival really reminds me of
our inter-personal relation.
