Appointments Tom Brookes Tom Brookes, a senior figure within the fire sector, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Fire & Security Association (FSA). Brookes harbours over 25 years’ experience within the fire industry, having started work as a fire engineer back in 1992. He bought Lindum Fire Services in 2002, and has turned the business into one of the major fire detection and alarm systems organisations in Lincolnshire. Brookes’ career has included involvement with a range of industry bodies. He has served as a Technical Committee member at the British Standards Institution and as chairman of the British Fire Consortium. Steve Martin, head of the FSA, commented: “With the fire industry currently in the spotlight, Tom is the ideal person to ensure the FSA becomes a key player in ensuring that standards and safety are placed at the forefront of building development and improvement.” Speaking about his new role at the FSA, Brookes informed Risk UK: “I’m delighted to be taking over as chairman of the FSA at what is a very crucial time for our industry. I aim to use my extensive experience in the fire sector to ensure that the industry drives through improvements in the safety of both residential and commercial buildings.” Gary Harmer Hikvision UK & Ireland has appointed security industry veteran Gary Harmer as sales director. Harmer brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise having held roles in manufacturing and engineering and boasting over 27 years’ experience in the sphere of security distribution. In this new role, Harmer is heading up Hikvision UK & Ireland’s business development team. Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the sales function, he’s also working closely with Hikvision’s authorised distribution channel, security installers and systems integrators in addition to key end users. Commenting on his appointment, Harmer informed Risk UK: “As the largest security manufacturer in the world with a vast array of technologies currently available and many soon to be released, I’m delighted to be joining Hikvision’s UK & Ireland team. Parsons will report directly to Gary Harmer. Morgan Vessier Morgan Vessier has been appointed as the new head of risk at BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions UK. Within the BNP Paribas Group, BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions specialises in leasing and rental solutions for professional equipment, offered either directly to businesses or through its partners. Vessier succeeds Mike Quinn, who recently took over as head of the company’s UK technology finance division. Joining the BNP Paribas Group back in 2005, Vessier has since worked across several key business units, including BNP Paribas Personal Finance, where he served as the head of centre for scoring and the Turkish Economic Bank, where he acted as director of retail and small business risk analytics. “Morgan’s a natural choice for this role,” stated Jean-Michel Boyer, CEO of BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions UK. “He brings with him a huge depth of market knowledge and experience and, undoubtedly, he will be a terrific asset to our UK business.” Rajiv Datta Colt Technology Services has appointed Rajiv Datta as chief operating officer of the company, reporting directly to CEO Carl Grivner. In this new expanded role, Datta – who previously served as Colt’s CTO – will now bring together Colt’s operational and technological capabilities, customer experience strategy and product and innovation teams under one organisational framework. In his 18 months as CTO at Colt, Datta was responsible for the development of the company’s network technology strategy and the creation of its next generation of products and services, including the evolution of an SDN-based network. Datta has also been a key driver of Colt’s high bandwidth strategy, enabling this through redesigning, simplifying and innovating the Colt IQ Network.
