why?
I look at my parents because
they are really funny
and kind.
Melody Alleman was chosen
as Standout Student for her
academic excellence.
What is one essential you
must have when studying?
I must have complete silence,
which is almost impossible
in my house!
What do you like to do when
not in school or studying?
I like to draw and play
basketball and practice my
flute.
What is your dream job?
My drea job is to be in the
WNBA. After that, a teacher.
What are some of the most
played songs on your iPod?
Whatever is on the radio
(except country, hard rock,
rap, blues or jazz...so, pop).
What is one thing people do
not know about you?
I volunteer at my church,
Who is your favorite teacher
and why?
Mrs. Cronholm because
she is so nice and is never
grumpy.
What is your favorite class
and why?
Math because Mrs. Mathias
is an amazing teacher and
makes the class so much fun!
What is one thing that
stands out about your
school?
It’s like a family and everyone
knows everyone and
supports each other.
What extracurricular(s) do
you wish your school had?
I wish we had a dance
team, tumbling team and a
soccer team.
What is your morning
routine?
I eat a bowl of cereal, pack

up all my things and get to my
first activity — either cheer
practice or basketball practice.
If you could change one thing
about school, what would
it be?
Longer recess and lunch
periods!
What is your favorite thing
to eat in the cafeteria?
I bring my lunch. Also,
the PTA hands out ice cream
sandwiches on your birthday.
What is your best memory
from school?
Winning four basketball
tournaments last year in fifth
grade.

Errico said the VFW has
received only positive feedback
on the decision and
doesn’t expect any negative
backlash. Post Quartermaster
Keith Carberry and Errico
both agree the protests are
part of the players’ freedom
of speech and acknowledge
the message they’re promoting,
but not the method.
“Obviously, they feel
they’ve been wronged,”
Carberry said. “There’s been
obviously some instances of
police brutality and all that
… They do have a right to
try to bring awareness to
it, but they way they’re going
about it is completely
wrong.”
Major League Baseball
player Bruce Maxwell, a
catcher for the Oakland Athletics,
recently became the
first MLB player to kneel
during the national anthem,
and Errico said if the protests
in the MLB grow, he
will “absolutely” stop showing
those games at the post,
as well. He has also reached
out to the Lockport American
Legion and asked them
to spread the word about the
decision to stop showing
NFL games.
“It’s their right for freedom
of speech; they just
chose the wrong way to do
it according to our values,”
Carberry said. “It’s just the
way we feel.”
