Fortified foods for pregnant women<br />

The most common foods for pregnant women listed by respondents were milk, Malta, shake<br />

drinks, V8, cornflakes, and Famoza. Milk was listed by 14 (42%) of respondents, and accounted<br />

for 263% of 54 total responses. Malta was listed by 11 (33%) of the respondents, and accounted<br />

for 20% of responses, followed by shakes (6 of 33 respondents, and 11% of all responses (Tables<br />

X and Y).<br />

Respondents were asked, specifically, whether they sold a series of fortified and peanut-based food<br />

products, including AK-1000 (Akamil), AK-100 (Akasan), Baby <strong>Food</strong> (Gerber), Powdered Milk,<br />

Evaporated Milk, Raw Peanuts, Roasted Peanuts, Peanut Butter, and Peanut Clusters. Evaporated<br />

milk was by far the most commonly sold product on this list. All respondents reported that they<br />

stocked evaporated milk. The next most frequently listed such item was baby food, with 76% of<br />

the vendors reporting that they sold this item most frequently, followed by peanut butter (manba)<br />

at 52%, evaporated milk at 30%, and raw peanuts, roasted peanuts, peanut clusters, and akamil<br />

(AK 1000), at 6% (Figure 3).
