GET ACTIVE AND GET SUPPORT
Fill your schedule with exciting
activities in which you like to participate.
Your mind will naturally be focused on
something other than your tinnitus.
Many people allow this condition to
control their lives, but you don’t have
to. Concentrate on doing activities
you enjoy to distract yourself.
It could help to find others who deal with
tinnitus. Oftentimes building a database
of support groups for yourself can really
lessen the stress and anxiety you might feel
towards your condition. Tinnitus sufferers
are all in this together, so it’s important
that you trade advice for improving quality
of life with other sufferers.
7
GET RELIEF AT HOME
Do not let tinnitus get to you at home.
Create white noise by turning on a small
fan or turning down the air conditioner.
If that overwhelms you, try placing a tiny
fan in each room, or playing a sound CD.
If you can drown out tinnitus sounds while
at home, it’ll be a lot easier to deal with
your condition. You probably won’t notice
ringing in your ears as much while you are
busy doing things outside of your home,
so it won’t bother you so much. You won’t
even need specialized equipment.
8
BEHAVIORAL APPROACHES WORK
If you want relief from your tinnitus,
it might be necessary to restrict certain
behaviors that engage the condition. These
behaviors include drinking alcohol, using
tobacco and taking NSAIDs like aspirin.
Get professional help if you need to.
Visit a counselor who specializes in
cognitive behavioral therapy. This type
of therapy will teach you how to stop
focusing on tinnitus so much. The help of
a professional can get you past the stress
that you feel when you are confronted with
your tinnitus. This will make it easier to
cope with. Don’t let tinnitus control you. If
you do, it will be hard to live a happy life.
