feature|north anna power station North Anna Nuclear Information Center PHOTOS PROVIDED BY NORTH ANNA NUCLEAR INFORMATION CENTER The North Anna Nuclear Information Center is a popular tourist attraction and field trip destination for schools and community organizations. More than 100,000 visitors have stopped by to explore, learn and talk with us since the Information Center opened in 1988. The Information Center is located in Louisa County at Dominion Virginia Power’s North Anna Power Station on the shores of Lake Anna. Upgraded state-of-the-art, interactive exhibits are available to the public free of charge, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Center is closed weekends and major holidays. 24 LAKE ANNA GUIDE | 2017/2018
north anna power station|feature Upon entering the Information Center foyer, visitors will see a birds-eye view of the nuclear power station on an 8- by 5-foot wallmounted display. Next to this display is a large regional wall-mounted map that provides a sense of where you are in relation to the local community and the power station. A brand new exhibit at the Information Center explains where electricity comes from when you turn on your light switch at home. While visiting the center you may want to watch a new short movie about the nuclear power plants in Virginia. The exhibits focus not only on nuclear energy, but also environmental stewardship, worldwide energy demand, magnets and electrical circuits, energy sources and radiation. Visitors can also discover their carbon footprint and explore ways to reduce it in today’s world. Our Information Center staff is available to answer any questions you may have about North Anna. If you would like to learn about nuclear energy, please come visit us. Groups are welcome and should make advance reservations to ensure quality and availability of programs.
