CROWS NEST POLICE REPORT with Sgt GREG DAWES
Home security warning
CRIME: August 30 - An
unknown offender attempted
to gain entry into a property on
John Street, Crows Nest by removing
louvres at the rear of the
residence. No entry was gained.
What is concerning is that the
occupants of the address were
home at the time, so I implore
everyone to ensure their houses
are locked at all times, even if
you are inside.
Between August 30 and September
1, police attended a
property on Anduramba Road,
Crows Nest where an alleged
quantity of stolen property was
located. The male offender, 28,
was charged with four counts of
stealing, four counts of receiving
tainted property, two counts
of possessing tainted property,
one count of authority required
to possess explosives and one
count of disqualified driving.
The offender was charged
through the Toowoomba Watchhouse
and will be appearing before
the Toowoomba Magistrates
Court on September 27.
Between August 31 and September
7, unknown offenders
gained entry into the Crows Nest
Swimming Pool complex on
Curnow Street, Crows Nest. The
offenders damaged a water pump
on the property before leaving
the scene.
On September 7, a male 52,
was caught stealing items from
a property of the New England
Highway, Crows Nest. The offender
was issued a Notice to
Appear for an offence of enter
premises an commit an indictable
offence, and will be appearing
before the Toowoomba Magistrates
Court on October 26.
TRAFFIC: September 2
- A silver Mazda utility was intercepted
on the New England
Highway, Crows Nest. Checks
conducted revealed that the vehicle
was both unregistered and
uninsured. The male driver, 58,
was issued with traffic infringement
notices for the offences.
There were 23 traffic infringement
notices issued in the division
for the past fortnight.
Women encouraged to get out and get active
Women and girls of all ages
are being encouraged to get out
and get active with Toowoomba
Regional Council’s new Thrive
project.
To coincide with Women’s
Health Week, more than 200
free and low-cost activities are
being made available from September
through to May 2018 for
women and girls living in the
Toowoomba Region.
Deputy Mayor Carol Taylor
said the initiative was about empowering
women to have a go
at a range of fitness and outdoor
recreation activities they may
not have tried before.
“Research tells us more than
40 per cent of adult women in
Queensland are not achieving
the recommended 30 minutes
of moderate physical activity on
most days of the week,” she said.
“TRC secured additional funding
from the State Government
to provide more than 200 free or
low-cost options for women and
girls of all ages to get active.
“Toowoomba Regional Council
worked with the Queensland
Government to secure more than
$35,000 from the Government’s
Get Out, Get Active grant to provide
various fitness and outdoor
recreation programs specifically

A little while ago I decided that it would be
good for the kids and I if we had our own chooks.
Our first egg arrived and I have just calculated
the cost: One chook pen @ $148 plus freight
- $200, three chooks @ 1$6.50 each - $49.50, one
bag of mash - $18, one watering dish - $25. Total

It will take a long time to recoup the investment
made in our chooks. Most of my friends who have
chooks have said that keeping them is a lifestyle
not a financial decision.
For me investing in our chooks is about the long
term benefits. Three chooks at three eggs a day =
21 eggs a week. Optimistically. that’s a bit less
than $10 return a week and that’s assuming they
lay consistently each day. At that rate, it will take
me almost a year to repay my initial investment
and it is likely that it will take much longer.
