Students achieve when they put their minds to it<br />

For almost 20 years Highfields State School<br />

has been participating in the Opti-MINDS<br />

challenge.<br />

This year they have won a first place for the<br />

fourth time.<br />

Facilitator Ms Julie Keating said teams participate<br />

in language/literature, social science,<br />

and science/engineering.<br />

Students participated in orientation sessions,<br />

developing an understanding of what<br />

the challenges could entail and team processes.<br />

Finals will be held at the University of<br />

Queensland on October 10 - 11 where up to<br />

130 teams from Queensland and Western<br />

Australia will compete.<br />

First place in Language and Literature - Claire Beha, Lydia<br />

Jocumsen, Emma-Rose Flanagan, Mia Roberts. Missing<br />

Abbie Haywood and Elle Rayner. The team will go to the<br />

State finals in October.<br />

Team 2 Social Science honours - Imogen Fisher, Georgia Boyd, Rebecca Johnston, Aya Martin, Ruby Servin and Megan<br />
