All libraries will be upgraded to SPYDUS 10, which features a new discovery tool that enable patrons to search all collections within the one search. All libraries will be closed and customers will be unable to return any items during this shutdown. The library website will still be available however our library catalogue will be unavailable. But there was friendly conflict with teapots in the shape tractors, held by Janelle Caldicott and Kay Hartmann. A farmer visitor said the red teapot, represented Case IH, should be disposed of. He was a John Deere man and quite liked the green teapot. The 12th year of the teapot display includes a CWA display, and a tea pot, coffee pot and a menu from Londy’s Café, an institution in Ruthven Street. Peacehaven revamp in time for carnival The upgraded Peacehaven Botanic Park at Highfields has opened just in time for the 68th annual Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. At the official opening of the improved 4.7 hectare park, Minister for Local Government Mark Furner said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to help fund the upgrade. “A grant of almost $313,000 was provided for the project, which employed 15 people from the design phase to completion of construction,” Mr Furner said. “This is another example of the great work being done by the Palaszczuk Government to provide employment for people in regional centres throughout Queensland. “Since we were elected, 94,500 jobs have been created, the equivalent of 100 new jobs every day since January 2015.” Mr Furner said the investment in the Peacehaven Botanic Park enhanced Toowoomba’s image as the Garden City. “This upgrade offers great benefits for locals, who can come here all year round, as well as tourists visiting the area,” Mr Furner said. “What makes this park special is the nature play area and sensory garden, the wide paths that ensure it is accessible for people of all ages and This is prostate cancer awareness month One in five Queensland men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer by the age of 85. Our dads, brothers, grandfathers, partners and friends are at risk. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer among men in Queensland, with around 4000 men diagnosed each year on average. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and we’re urging men to help raise awareness of the disease and better understand their risk to help detect it early. While five-year survival rates for prostate cancer are drastically improving and are at 94 per cent, up from 64 per cent in the 1980s, there’s still no time for complacency. The cause of prostate cancer is still not clear, and in the early stages, prostate cancer often doesn’t produce any symptoms. However, we do know that the risk of prostate cancer rises with age and occurs mainly in men abilities, and the lawns which will be a great place for people to gather.” Toowoomba Regional Council Deputy Mayor Carol Taylor said the Peacehaven Botanic Park upgrade includes unique botanic referenced play-art with elements designed and constructed taking inspiration from the local environment. “The park’s upgrade makes this piece of open-space an even greater asset for the Highfields and broader Toowoomba Regional community,” Cr Taylor said. “The Council is grateful to the State Government for its contribution, ever conscious of the generosity of benefactor Stan Kuhl, and delighted by the vision and hard work of the Friends of Peacehaven Botanic Park. “I expect this significant park will become ever more popular as a location for weddings and community events with the new accessible nature play area, backdrop of the beautiful lake and views out to the Bunya Mountains.” Mr Furner said he was pleased the Local Government Grant and Subsidies Program was used to support such a worthwhile project to help boost jobs for regional Queensland and support the Toowoomba Regional Council to build local communities. over 60 years.
