RESEARCH AREA<br />

We work on integrated optical devices combined with microfluidics<br />

(design, production and usage). We develop such<br />

a label-free integrated optical biosensor that is capable of<br />

detecting bacteria via antibody-antigene reaction. Chromoproteins<br />

(eg. Bacteriorhodopsin) are also studied in integrated<br />

optical devices as photoactive materials. We also<br />

develope a microfluidical model system for biological barriers<br />

(for example: blood-brain-barrier).<br />

TECHNIQUES AVAILABLE IN THE LAB<br />

Creating and designing microfluidical devices and integrated<br />

optical devices (consisting of optical waveguides). Skills<br />

for usual devices can be found in a Clean Room: mask aligner<br />

(standard i-line and g-line photolithography), a maskless<br />

photolithography machine, a spincoater with photoresists,<br />

a plasma cleaner. Use of an inverted optical microscope,<br />

diode lasers and photodetectors. Devices in microfluidics:<br />

syringe pumps, peristaltic pumps and work with the PDMS<br />

silicone elastomer.<br />
