IMPORTANCE, AIMS AND POSSIBLE OUTCOME OF RESEARCH
The subject of my research is the primary, innate immunity. We use Drosophila as
a model organism for the examinations, especially the members of the melanogaster
and the ananassae subgroup. The specialities of the ananassae subgroup
are the multinucleated giant hemocytes (MGHs) which can be formed during the
immune induction of the larvae by, for example, endoparasitoid wasps. This kind
of cells highly resemble to the cells of the human granulomata. The importance
of better understaning these structures is that the diseases that cause them, like
the tuberculosis, are still quite common. One of our purposes is the development
of a novel granuloma model in Drosophila from which we can deduce the formation
and function of the granulomata of the human diseases. The MGHs are
a widespread defense mechanisms in nature thus we want to examine these in
other species. By testing multiple species we can draw a conclusion of the evolution
of this type of immunity.
AIMS DURING HIS CAREER
I would like to be an acknowledged researcher. I would like to expand my knowledge
in a laboratory abroad. I would like to work in the medical field in parallel
with work in research.
