December 21, 2014
Mommy: Elizabeth, 30
Daddy: David, 32
St. Thomas
Nashville, TN
On December 27th we got
an email from our social
worker to call her ASAP,
but she gave us the wrong
number! After several failed
attempts to reach her, she
finally called us back.
She told us a birthmother had
chosen us and that she had given
birth to a baby girl who was a
week old! We were shaking with
excitement! Here is the family
photo we took right after finding
out about you, and the first
family photo after you came
home.
We met your birthmother on Monday, December 29th.
She told us why she chose us to be your parents and how much she
loved you and wanted the best for you.
She told us about your half-brother, and how she was excited you
would have a good big brother in Nathaniel. We all felt so connected
during that meeting and knew that we would all be family forever,
connected together by you and our love for you!
After meeting your birthmother, we went to see you in the hospital.
You were so tiny and sweet and we couldn’t stop looking at you and
holding you. You had light, wrinkly skin and the most beautiful black eyes
that were usually closed in sleep. Your hair was smooth and black and
you loved snuggling up when we held you.
We went home that night with your bedroom still an office, and cleaned
out as much as we could, knowing we would go back in less than 12
hours to bring you home!
SPREADING
THE WORD
We told Mommy’s family the day after we found out about you! The
whole family was in town after Christmas and so it was fun to share
the news with all of them. We called Nana and Papa to let them
know, along with Pop-Pop and Lala and everyone was so excited to hear
about you! After we met you on Monday we sent photos of you to
our friends to share our excitement! We were so overjoyed to have you
as our baby girl!
SHOWERED WITH LOVE
We didn’t have a shower for you since you came so quickly!
But, we were ‘showered’ with lots of gifts from family and friends.
Your nursery bedding and décor came from Nana and Mary Anne, and
Emily painted the nameplate that was over your crib.
Emily, Sarah, and Susan got you the most adorable baby girl clothes
and brought them to us when they came to meet you.
EVIE'S BIRTH
STORY
It’s still crazy to
think that while we
celebrated Christmas
you had already
been born and we
were just waiting to
meet you!
Your birth mother went into labor about one month before your due date,
very early in the morning on December 21st. She knew she had to get
to the hospital as quickly as possible, so she drove herself early in the
morning! You came quickly and were born at 8:54am.
You stayed in the NICU, being cared for by the nurses and doctors for 10
days and we brought you home on December 30th, just one day after we
met you for the first time!
OUR FAMILY
THIS.IS.HOW.WE.KNOW.YOU.
We call her Evie, BooBoos, Sweetie-Peety.
Your birth mother named you Macie in the hospital and we wanted to
keep this as part of your name, so we made it your middle name. We
loved the names Evelyn and Macie together, so Evelyn Macie it was!
Evelyn means “light” or “wished for child” and you are both!
The first night at home was an adjustment for all of us! We put the Pack
& Play in our room to have you sleep near us. You woke up several times
for your bottle just as every new baby should.
We loved having you home with us!
When we got home
Grandma was waiting with
Nathaniel; and Grandpa,
Hannah, Dan, Deborah,
Aaron and Carley came
shortly after!
After Mommy’s family
came, cousins Kyle and
Cassidy got to meet you!
Nana came to stay for a
few days and in the first
few weeks our family and
friends came to visit you.
You are loved by so many! Your parents, grandparents, great
grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many friends love
you so much!
Daddy changed words to songs like “Edelweiss” and
“Bye Bye Birdie”
Evelyn, Evelyn, you’re so special to me.
Sweetest little girl in all the world.
You’ll be mine forever.
I love my Evie girl, oh yes I do.
I love my Evie girl and I’ll be true.
When you’re not with me I’m blue.
Oh Evie girl I love you.
Evie you are
bright-eyed, cuddly
and sweet.
Sweet Evie,
Words cannot begin to describe how excited we were when we
found out we had been chosen to be your parents! We are so
grateful to be your parents and Nathaniel has always been
thrilled that you are his little sister. Meeting you was such an
emotionally overwhelming day as we held and fed you for the
first time. You were so tiny and bright-eyed and now that
you are one year old you are more curious and alert than
ever! You are growing into such an active, inquisitive, playful,
and snuggly toddler and we can’t wait to see where life takes
you as you continue to grow. We know that God created you
exactly the way you are that you are a gift to the world.
We love you so much!
Love, Mommy, Daddy, and Nathaniel
