When I Grow Up

whose creative answers were used
to make this book in June of 2015

They say the Mack children are quite a crew
Ryder, Rory, and Cody too
With parents like Charity and Chris, it’s no wonder
That these kids are terrific, over and under”

But we had to wonder, could it be known
what the Macks will be like once they are all grown?

So we asked them some questions and used our computer
to write a prediction of each one in the future

Once they are grown up, who knows what they’ll be,
the places they’ll go or the things they will see?

Rory...
slimy...
huskies...
robot builder...
Ryder...
Cody...
But their answers were taken and mixed up and shaken,
and I wonder if maybe... just maybe…

‘RYDER, the oldest, so clever and caring
might become a JEDI, STINKY and daring.’
‘He will practice FIGHTING DARTH VADER
each day until dark
and take his POISONOUS HUSKY
for walks in the park’

Rory is next, so let’s keep digging deeper
2nd oldest, 2nd youngest, this one’s a real keeper
‘RORY’s PAINTING and RIDING will keep the
SLIMY PIGS and UNICORNS away’
“What does that mean?” you ask. We think it means... Rory will save the day
‘She will be the most BUBBLY QUEEN.’ Does that sound far fetched?
I’m starting to wonder if this machine is correct!

Now for Cody… Let’s see what our crazy computer computes?
He will CHEW his way through MADAGASCAR
with SPOTTED LAMBS in boots.
But this is getting quite silly! Tell us, what will he be?
Tell us computer, what things will he see?

Hmmm...it says... A ROBOT BUILDER will be his profession
And he’ll round up BLUE SLUGS and
teach them a lesson.

The Macks, The Macks…..Oh dear, it just keeps repeating
Our supercomputer seems to be overheating.

BANANA, BANANA, BANANA… Now what’s THIS about?
Computer! Please. What else did you find out?
Here it comes, the printer is printing it now
It says...
You have to wait and find out!

The Mack children may be known near and far
For music, or science, or going to Mars
But how should I know? I’m not really a computer.
A monkey with a pencil can’t tell you the future

What a disaster! Who built this machine?
And all those predictions. What do they all mean?

I guess it is time to get back to what’s true
