Heritage Banks helps students hone their skills
Students from Crows Nest
State School are honing their
gardening and cooking skills
with a helping hand from Heritage
Bank Crows Nest Community
Branch.
Heritage Bank and Crows
Nest Community Branch joint
venture partner Progressive
Community Crows Nest PCCN
provided Crows Nest State
School with a community grant
of $6,400 to develop a unique
horticulture and cooking program
called “Grow Cook Taste”.
Spearheaded by Crows Nest
State School teacher Ashley
Genrich and local chef Kate
Nicholas, Grow Cook Taste is
now in its second semester and
has been extended from the high
school to the primary school.
“We are so grateful for the
support from Heritage Bank
Crows Nest and PCCN,” Mr
Genrich said.
“These funds have helped us
to create this unique hands-on
program for our students. It’s a
point of difference for our school
and something we’re very proud
of.
“The students have a hand in
everything, from growing the
produce in our dedicated gardens
to using this food in a cooking
class.
"They learn about horticulture,
food preparation, how to
create different flavours, knife
safety skills and much more.
“It provides a real sense of
achievement for the students to
be part of the process from start
to finish.”
The students showed their impressive
skills recently, inviting
staff from Heritage Bank to view
the gardens built from the grant,
and then judge a cooking competition
between the students
and teachers.
Heritage Crows Nest Branch
Sales and Service Manager Aimee
Skaines said,
“We were thoroughly impressed
with the skills and passion
shown by the students taking
part in this unique program.
“We’re a close-knit community
and have built really strong
relationships with our customers.
"It’s so rewarding for us to
have the opportunity to support
fantastic initiatives like Grow
Cook Taste.
“The beauty of being a community
branch is that the more
people bank with us, the more
we are able to give back through
grants and sponsorship. It’s
all about working together to
achieve great things.”
Heritage Bank’s Crows Nest
and Highfields branches operate
under the community branch
model as a joint-venture between
Heritage Bank and the local
community, represented by a
company called PCCN, Progressive
Community Crows Nest.
Under the Heritage model, the
community company’s share of
profits is given back as grants to
community organisations, charities
and worthy causes.
Nest area and would like to
New Hope directors on morale
boosting visit to Oakey
New Acland miners received a morale boosting
visit from the New Hope Group Board of Directors
last Wednesday.
Members of the board, led by Chairman Robert
Millner and Managing Director Shane Stephan,
spent two days touring parts of the local area,
including New Acland Mine and the Company’s
Oakey Community Centre.
“Our workers have had a pretty rough time over
the past 12 months waiting for the Stage 3 Project
to secure its state government approvals,” Mr
Millner said.
“At the end of the day they want to know whether
their job and their family’s future are secure.
“We wanted to demonstrate to our workforce
that not only do they have the overwhelming support
of the local community, they have the full
backing of the New Hope board.”
The board began the visit with their quarterly
board meeting at the New Acland Mine before
spending several hours touring mining operations
and speaking with employees.
“New Acland truly is an innovation hub and it
was great to see some of health and wellness initiatives
that helped New Acland win the Health
Program Award at the recent Queensland Mining
Industry Health and Safety Conference,” Mr Millner
said.
“Coming from a family with cattle grazing
background, I also found it particularly rewarding
to visit the 490ha of mined land that is now fully
rehabilitated and being grazed by cattle,” Mr Millner
said.
“We are committed to seeing Stage 3 go ahead
and we want the community to know we understand
how important this Project is for the local
area and we are behind them all the way.”
leafshield gutter protection
Clean gutters, clean tank water
Leafshield Gutter Protection
is a family owned business operating
in Queensland since 1995.
We install quality gutter
guards to suit most roof types,
and our system is designed to fit
over any roof or gutter.
If you rely on tank water, it is
important that the water is able
to flow freely through the gutter
system unrestricted to the tanks.
With even a small quantity of
leaves in the gutter system, gutters
can overflow and cause loss
of precious tank water.
Leaf debris is the perfect host
for bacteria that causes your tank
water to become unusable and
require costly maintenance.
Installing Leafshield’s gutter
guard removes the hassle and
danger of home owners cleaning
their own gutters or valleys.
We install a range of meshes,
including fire-rated aluminium,
stainless steel and our heavy
