LEWIS REECE: WORLD CUP SELECTION WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE WRITTEN BY PATRICK BAINES 20 LEWIS REECE SAYS HE’S WORKING AS HARD AS HE CAN TO BOOK A PLACE IN THE WALES SQUAD AT THIS YEAR’S WORLD CUP. After being named in the 38 man train-on squad, along with his All Golds team mates Steven Parry and Courtney Davies, Reece says he’ll do everything he can to book a place on the plane to Australia. He said: “There’s nothing better than playing for your country, I’ve been lucky enough to play seven times for Wales and I’ve loved every minute. I’m a proud Welshman so to get the chance to play in a World Cup would mean everything to me. We’ve got a very strong squad so competition for places is going to be tough. All I can concentrate on is playing well and fingers crossed I make it. 21 was the right one. “I’ve really enjoyed being back at the club. For me the main thing is that I get on so well with everyone – the players and the staff, I’ve become good friends with a lot of them. A lot of the players have been here a few seasons now and we all know each other. “We’ve had some really good wins this season. We had a good shot at getting inside the top eight which for a club as young as ours was some achievement. My favourite game this season was the 36-28 win over North Wales Crusaders. It was a real close game against a good side and personally I had one of my best games, scoring two tries. The second try came when we were winning by just two points with a few minutes left so it was a really important one. We all got together after the game and had a good night. It was great to be back with the boys.” Despite being on the wrong end of a 62-10 scoreline Reece says the game in Toronto last month was one of the highlights of the season. Playing the full 80 minutes against full-time opposition Reece capped off a fine performance with the try of the game. “It was a great trip, not just the game but seeing a bit of Canada as well. We all had a great time, it was a real thrill to test yourself in front of a big crowd against some big name players. “The great thing about our sport is that it gives you an opportunity to visit other countries. I’ve had some great experiences all through playing rugby league. Toronto was an amazing city and I’ll remember the game fondly. To score a try was great but I have to give all the credit to Joe McClean who did all the hard work with that break through the middle.
