Our local area is<br />

growing like<br />

Popcorn!<br />

After a long corporate career, a<br />

brush with breast cancer and<br />

many, many hours of reflection<br />

while in the car commuting to<br />

work (averaging 4 hours a day) or<br />

sitting at home alone while going<br />

through surgeries and chemo – it<br />

hit me!<br />

“Why are we still commuting to<br />

work – why is it something we go<br />

to – rather than something we<br />

do?”<br />

Our local area is growing like<br />

popcorn, in fact when we moved<br />

to Point Cook in 2006 there were<br />

only 11000 people living here,<br />

since the 2011 census and the<br />

2016 on there has been a growth<br />

of 54% and we now have over 50<br />

000 people living in our suburb,<br />

the local plan tells us that there<br />

are now over 200 000 people<br />

living locally and this is going to<br />

double again in the next decade<br />

and yet over 70% need to<br />

commute to jobs elsewhere.<br />

It is clear to me that Outer Metro areas are getting the short<br />

straw of investment into infrastructure and the opportunity to<br />

grow local jobs – We are also the growth areas and where<br />

young families settle to raise their kids – and it strikes me, if<br />

mum and dad are commuting for work to keep a roof over their<br />

heads – then we are not looking completely at the picture of<br />

nurturing families. We are cash strapped and time poor – at the<br />

mercy of Future of Work disruption – Churn from corporate<br />

workforce, manufacturing and retail – At the same time we see<br />

local businesses going out of business all the time.<br />

My “Why” is clear, my purpose is to utilise my experience, skills<br />

and passion and ability to start and grow business and projects<br />

to build this movement of growing sustainable local economy<br />

and social cohesion and that is how the BizBuddyHub<br />

movement was born. Our ethos to live, work, shop and support<br />

local – Collaborate global – is fully achievable and we aim to<br />

continue to build and nurture the ecosystem, the tools and the<br />

people that will help this to thrive.<br />

Community can only connect and grow if we nurture it and are<br />

inclusive, welcoming, creating a sense of belonging and “in this<br />

together “culture. We people that live and love our local area<br />

need to drive this, not governments or third parties and when<br />

we realise the power lies with us, we find our voice and our<br />

energy to do what is required.<br />

My “Why” – ensure the future of work/future of community<br />

vision, which is better for the next generation and those to<br />

come, that we have returned to a values based mindset and a<br />

purpose for our business that transcends the transactional<br />

dollars and can be measured in impact in human and planet<br />

terms while delivering on the financial norms.

everything we need to live, work, & play is within 20<br />

This is appealing on so many levels and will give back<br />

time to families, grow sustainable local economies &<br />

buzz word at the moment but it's<br />

Set yourself some goals. A plan<br />

without a goal is a dream, we’ve<br />

all heard it and it's true. They say<br />

and grammar. The writing needs to first<br />

grab the attention of a potential or<br />

existing client and then engage them to<br />

read all the way to the end. Using the<br />

writing to invoke emotion can create a<br />

connection with the client, a great tool<br />

when hoping to convert an interested<br />

party to a paying customer.<br />

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is also<br />

an essential part of most copywriting<br />

tasks. Ensuring keywords are used subtly<br />

yet effectively will assist with a<br />

business’s Google ranking, making them<br />

easier for potential clients to find.<br />

Ensure correct spelling, grammar and structure at all<br />

times. Mistakes can affect a potential client’s perception<br />

of your company. A good idea is to have someone else<br />

proofread your document before hitting publish.<br />

Think about your clients and what they want to read, after<br />

all that’s who you’re writing for! Understand your target<br />

market and write content that will appeal to them. Do your<br />

research and make sure anything you write is factually<br />

correct.<br />

Know who you are. Think about your brand – what is your<br />

core product or service, what are your business values,<br />

what do your customers think when they think about your<br />

company? It is well worth undertaking a branding exercise<br />

to really identify who your business is and how you want to<br />

communicate with your clients. Knowing who you are will<br />

help develop a tone of voice – a consistent way of saying<br />

things that should shine through in all of your writing.<br />

Understand search engine optimisation or invest in some<br />

help from someone who does. Keyword rich headings,<br />

subheadings and copy, as well as internal links and<br />

optimised high quality images can make your website much<br />

easier to find. You will also benefit from including links<br />

to your various social media platforms and writing great<br />

content that keeps clients on your website longer. And<br />

remember, if your website is not mobile responsive then it<br />

is unlikely it will be found by Google.<br />

Don’t forget your call to action! Think about what you<br />

would like the client to do after reading your content.<br />

Provide a simple way for the customer to connect with you,<br />

engage your services or purchase your product.<br />

work in the evening. A father might not want<br />

to live the traditional corporate life. He might<br />

not want to put a suit on and head to the city<br />

every day. You might want to spend more<br />

time with the kids. Work life balance doesn't<br />

necessarily mean working fewer hours it just<br />

means having the ability to choose the hours<br />

that you want.

I’m an Australian who has made London her home. My family and I<br />

moved here 4 years ago and it’s been a period self-growth, perseverance<br />

and gratitude.<br />

It was a challenge to set ourselves up here, due to the usual stresses of<br />

life. But we hung in there & I’m very thankful we did. We feel very<br />

welcomed in our neighbourhood, and we are grateful for the amazing<br />

job opportunities here.<br />

By continuing to interrogate research’s<br />

aims and objectives, we increase our<br />

understanding of the issues and what<br />

the solutions need to be. By empathy,<br />

we always engage with patients and<br />

their carers throughout the entire<br />

research process.<br />

Their lived experiences inform us of<br />

what they need; if treatment is<br />

acceptable, how an illness affects their<br />

lives, and what is important to them.<br />

Collaborating with patients and their<br />

carers ensure we will create solutions<br />

which are fit for purpose and needed.<br />

I currently work for a public research<br />

consultancy service for clinical staff across<br />

the NHS. I advise on grant submissions<br />

and research ideas that aim to improve<br />

health services. My background in<br />

mathematics and science lead me to<br />

develop skills in research design. I work<br />

with people who, as part of their<br />

profession, care for people, and also<br />

conduct research into patients’ care.<br />

This research evaluates all aspects on the<br />

spectrum of population health and medical<br />

care. For example, research can be about<br />

looking at the way a patient is cared for; if<br />

different therapies or drugs are more<br />

effective; if screening for a disease would<br />

be beneficial; if advice given helps<br />

recovery, and what are the causes of an<br />

illness. Through interrogation and<br />

empathy, we work out how to do<br />

meaningful research which will improve<br />

lives.<br />

I think these values of empathy and<br />

interrogation have strong parallels<br />

with entrepreneurship. Businesses<br />

are and then innovate solutions.<br />

your customer’s needs and deliver on<br />

these.<br />

I am enjoying reading this new<br />

magazine, which highlights how<br />

women are creating new<br />

opportunities and solutions for<br />

people who need them. I look forward<br />

to reading more editions, and would<br />

like to congratulate you on<br />

contributing to a supportive culture<br />
