Prepzone Pigskin Preview 2017
BLUE HILLBOBCATS By: Justin Biegel Winning is a tradition at Blue Hill, as the Bobcats haven’t missed the playoffs since 2004. Last season, Blue Hill came within two points of booking a ticket to the Class D2 state semifinal. After a 7-1 finish to the regular season, the Bobcats cruised through the first two rounds of the playoffs, before a crushing 29-27 loss to Twin Loup. It marked the furthest the team had advanced in the state playoffs since 2008, when the squad won the Class C2 championship. Now, Blue Hill is back and hungrier than ever to return to the postseason and finish what it started. For third year head coach Jon Coffey, he’ll have all but two players returning from last year’s team. That includes a group of 11 seniors, and seven offensive and defensive starters. “This team is loaded,” Coffey said. “We will be quick and very physical. Our key will be to stay focused on every week and not overlook anyone.” defense will be the strength of this year’s team, led by senior linebacker Lane Deisley. Listed at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, Deisley is a force to be reckoned with. He tallied 83 tackles in 2016, along with a forced fumble and a blocked punt. Deisley will also be the heart of the Bobcat offense. As a junior, he rushed 121 times for 722 yards and 15 touchdowns. “[Deisley] is very strong, athletic, really runs the ball aggressive,” Coffey said, who added he thinks Deisley will be a top five player in D2 this year. Coffey also speaks highly about senior Trent Kort, who will play alongside Deisley at linebacker and fullback on offense. “He likes to open the holes for our running backs,” Coffey said. “He’s a very hard hitter for us.” Kort recorded 54 tackles his junior season and scored two touchdowns on 30 carries at fullback. 2017 SCHEDULE 8/25 Meridian 9/1 Franklin 9/8 @ Arapahoe 9/15 @ Pleasanton 9/22 Axtell 9/29 Lawrence-Nelson 10/6 @ Giltner 10/19 @ Shelton opponents as it did in 2016, with locations being switched.
