EC-H, EC-B and HC cranes at work
on the Daimler-Benz museum.
A total of seven powerful Liebherr top-slewing cranes
of the EC-H, EC-B and HC series are working on the
construction of the new Daimler-Benz museum in
Stuttgart.
Two cranes have extraordinarily high free-standing towers.
The highest tower crane, a 256 HC, has a hook height
of 85.8 m; the 280 EC-B 12 Litronic has a hook height of
73.7 m. With their 65-metre and 45-metre-long jibs, these
cranes can cover their entire operating areas without
restriction at their respective vertical working levels.
Large 550 EC-H 20 Litronic crane
The large 550 EC-H 20 Litronic crane with a hook height of
49 m is positioned in the centre. At a working radius
of 41.5 m, this crane still has a maximum lifting capacity of
18 t at the jib head and is used to transport heavy steel
and precast concrete sections.
Four more cranes with 45 m jib each and hook heights
between 30 m and 61 m support the three main cranes in
handling building materials.
Reliability and high load handling capacities
In order to meet the tight completion deadlines, work on
the construction site is proceeding 14 hours per day.
Reliable operation and high load handling capacities are
therefore demanded from the tower cranes used.
All cranes work in two-fall operation in case of maximum
load handling as well as at empty-hook speeds thus
avoiding the need to change from two-fall to four-fall
operation. This not only makes considerable time savings
but also increases load handling capacity.
