4. Remove end bell by tapping upward around joint .<br />

and separating it from stator assembly, Figure 56.<br />

5. Remove four stator through-studs with vise grip .<br />

pliers as shown in Figure 57. Reinstall two studs .<br />

during reassembly for aligning and guiding the '<br />

. stator over the rotor.<br />

A pair of tongs is the most suitable device'for han-<br />

dling stators, Figure 58.<br />

The tongs shown were made from one inch steel bar.<br />

stock. The tongs should be a suitable size for han-<br />

dling several different size stators.
