With two part-time employees — Marlene Serbouseck, who iust came with the building at I04 East Main. Marlene had owned and operated Youth Town at that address. When the Rieniets opened the Flower shop, Marlene stayed on. Sue Pearson of Martelle was also employed as a floral designer. Sue had previously worked at several flower shops including Nellie-Don of Anamosa. Sue and Dennis then purchased the business in September of I985 and are now running the shop that is growing every day. They now have two employees, Marlene and Gail Herman. Gail has been with the shop since October of I985 and is experienced in the floral field. During the holidays the flower shop can keep 10-I2 people busy. Anamosa Floral started out small and has grown and progressed. They have wire services and are a full service flower shop. You can always find them busy with fresh flowers for weddings, funerals and other special occasions. They also have many gift and decorating ideas. Anamosa Mode O’ Day is a “very young" business. This moderately-priced, fashion-conscience ladies’ apparel shop was owned by Pat Johnson, Anamosa, in October of I974 at 200 West Main. it was then sold in I977 to Janice Conrad and on October 2. I979, was purchased by the present owner, Coleen VanAntwerp, Morley. Upon the closing of Crow's Men's Clothing at liB East Main in April I982, Coleen and her husband Maynard, along with family and friends, remodeled half of that building, owned by Gene Strawman, and moved into that location. Mode O’ Day is a franchise business in which the parent company was formed during the depression years of the '30s and basic clothing was manufactured and sold. Anamosa Mode O’ Day has been a growing business and now carries basic, as well as very fashion-trendy clothing in Junior, Missy and Ladies sizes along with fashion accessories. At the present time Shirley Borkgren, Vicki Borkgren and Sheila Machart, all of Anamosa, are part-time employees for Coleen.
