INDIA ALL SET TO DEPLOY
APACHE CHOPPERS AT BORDERS
TO BOOST FIREPOWER
At present, the Air Force is
planning to deploy the two
squadrons of the Apache
helicopters in Pathankot in Punjab
and Jorhat in Assam.
In a bid to boost its firepower at the
borders, India is planning to deploy
its deadly American Apache attack
helicopters at the sensitive Pathankot
airbase in Punjab as well as Jorhat
in Assam to fortify the northeastern
sector. The defence ministry cleared a
$2.2 billion contract with the US in 2015
for 22 Apache attack helicopters that
will strengthen the Indian Air Force's
capabilities on the frontiers with
Pakistan and China.
"At present, the Air Force is planning
to deploy the two squadrons of the
Apache helicopters in Pathankot
in Punjab and Jorhat in Assam to
meet the security requirements of
the western and the eastern theatre,"
sources in the defence ministry
told Mail Today. The Pathankot
airbase already has a component
of the Russian-origin Mi-35 attack
helicopters, which are used for
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala
will submit a request before the
Centre to officially block the online
social media game Blue Whale that
psychologically overpowers its players
and forces them to commit suicide.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan -
who was concerned over the alleged
supporting the advance of the Army
in war against the enemy infantry and
tank regiments while Jorhat would be
getting an attack helicopter unit for the
first time.
The infrastructure for hosting the
helicopters in the two bases would
also be completed as per the delivery
proliferation of the fatal game - told
the assembly on Wednesday that the
state government was keeping a vigil
since there were reports that the game
had recorded over 2,000 downloads in
the state. Vijayan was replying to a
submission moved by CPM MLA Raju
Abraham in the assembly.
"The government has issued a
warning. Police is also closely
monitoring those who have
downloaded the game here. Police have
asked them to uninstall the games from
their gadgets. Since Indian Computer
Emergency Response Team is the
schedule along with the other
requirements at these bases. Indian
pilots and air crew are also getting
trained on the new choppers so that
they can operate the helicopters when
they arrive in India. The preparation of
the Indian crew is also part of the deal
that the two sides signed.
agency that could do something to halt
the availability of the game, the state
government would appeal the Centre
to take steps and block it in India,"
Vijayan said.
The killer game gives numerous
tasks to its participants over a 50-day
period, ranging from harmless ones
to watching horror films at night and
slashing their wrists. The final task is
a suicide dare.
The game apparently claimed its first
victim in the country last week when
a Mumbai teenager committed suicide
recently.
An Engineer-
Turned-Farmer
Grew 51 Types
Of Mangoes
On One Tree
To Save
Endangered
Varieties
The real magic of life lies with the
extraordinary ideas of ordinary
people! Don't believe us? Meet Ravi
Marshetwar, an engineer turned
farmer who used his knowledge and
skills to grow 51 varieties of mangoes
in one tree. Ravi took inspiration from
his father, who was always keen to
work for the society and hence looked
forward to a life where he could do
something for the world.
After working for 10 years in Muscat,
Ravi came back to India and became
a farmer. With his endearment for
farmers intact, Ravi couldn't bear the
sight of various suicide-prone villages,
where farmers succumbed to death
because of miseries in agriculture. The
growing tension forced him to work
for the welfare of these distraught
people and educate them about the
government schemes and subsidies
they were entitled to.
With his tiny steps and bright ideas,
he began approaching farmers in the
areas nearby and addressed their
problems. He educated them about new
techniques, especially grafting with
which he created his miracle, on his 5
acres of ancestral land.
One of his most lauded works, the
mango tree grows 51 varieties of
mangoes on one single tree. It's 50
years old and has been grafted 1,350
times to get these varieties. The tree,
which was old and only gave sour
mangoes earned him close to 1,000
is now a loaded gem of varieties and
earns Ravi over INR 30,000. (Source:
Here's why
buying travel
tickets online
may get
expensive
under GST
NEW DELHI: Travel agents providing
online ticketing and other services
will be liable to deduct 1 per cent tax at
source under the GST regime as they
have been classified as e-commerce
operators, the CBEC said today.
Under the Goods and Services Tax
(GST) regime, an e- commerce operator
is required to collect 1 per cent of the
net value of taxable supplies made
through it. The amount so collected is
called tax collected at source or TCS
but this provision has been kept in
abeyance for the time being.
40 lakh cruise
tourists in 5
years: Gadkari
... Continued from Pg. 1
Mr. Gadkari said, “Work on the cruise
terminal in Mumbai has begun. We
plan on increasing connectivity at
200 minor ports to facilitate transport
within States. About 75% of cruise
vessels will dock at Mumbai as the city
is well-connected.”
David Dingle, CEO, Carnival, a
U.K.-based cruise operator with 44%
global share in the industry, said, “The
industry has great potential to grow
in India. However, investors will be
discouraged if Goods and Services Tax
is applicable on the sale of tickets and
on-board services along with income
tax.
“Global corporations must be given
the allowance of repatriating the
revenue to their fiscal bases through
double tax treaties. The port charges
have to brought down to make the
prices competitive.”
GMR's Hyderabad
airport becomes first
to offer 'Express
Security Check'
HYDERABAD: GMR group operated
Hyderabad International Airport
has become India's first airport to
offer express security check or preembarkation
security check right at
the terminal's entry gate for domestic
passengers with only hand-baggage,
making check-in faster and seamless.
The new facility is expected to help
over 40% of total domestic passengers,
mostly business and corporate
travellers, with hand-baggage during
peak hours, reducing the check-in area
congestion and also benefiting airlines
to improve their on-time performance
(OTP).
The airport has installed 10 ‘selfcheck
in’ machines outside domestic
departures. OP Singh, director general
of Central Industrial Security Force
(CISF), inaugurated the facility
on Friday in the presence of GMR
Hyderabad airport’s chief executive
SGK Kishore.
The airport management said the
domestic passengers, after printing
their boarding pass from the newly
installed ‘self-service kiosks’ located
conveniently at the departures
forecourt area outside the terminal
building, can now enter the Express
Security Check lane without getting
into the check-in area and head
straight towards the boarding area.

Facebook
launches
Google
YouTube
rival,
'Watch'
NEW DELHI: Facebook has for years
trying to take on its arch rival Google's
video platform YouTube. The social
media giant has pushed its live videos
to more users in the past few months,
in addition to introducing more video
editing tools. Also, the company has
been rumoured to launch TV-like
shows for past many months.
Finally, Mark Zuckerberg and his
team have announced a new tab inside
the main Facebook app, marking the
company's full-fledged entry into video
space. The new tab called 'Watch', as
Facebook says, brings original video
content onto the social media platform,
which also makes it stand tall against
the likes of YouTube, Amazon Prime
and Netflix.
The new 'Watch' tab for now is
limited in the US region on mobile,
desktop and Facebook TV apps. "Shows
are made up of episodes — live or
recorded — and follow a theme or
storyline. To help you keep up with
the shows you follow, Watch has a
Watchlist so you never miss out on the
latest episodes," said Daniel Danker,
director of product, Facebook in an
official blog post.
The tab will also tell users what their
friends on Facebook are watching.
The tab will have section such as
Most Talked About, What's Making
People Laugh and What Friends
Are Watching. Each video will also
show user comments. To help users
know more about the show before
watching it, the social media giant
has also introduced Show Pages. The
Show Pages give more background
information about the show, lets users
watch the episodes and related videos.
With Facebook's 'Watch', creators and
publishers will be able to earn money
for their work.
If Facebook plans to introduce the
new 'Watch' tab in India, it is likely
to show some local content as well.
For this the social media giant will
most probably team up with different
production houses in the country.
Pokemon Go
Fans Join
Giant Pikachus
at Yokohama
Festival
Thousands of Pokemon Go players
gathered in the Japanese port city of
Yokohama to try their hand at catching
rare virtual creatures while watching
dance shows featuring people dressed
as giant Pikachus.
Pokemon Go is a smartphone-based
game, which requires players to
'catch' virtual creatures, one of the
best-known of which is the mouselike
Pikachu, by going to real-world
locations where the game places them.
The festival, which is jointly
organised by Yokohama city and The
Pokemon Company, features a total of
15,000 Pikachus and will end on August
15, the event organisers said.
|leisure
More such events will be held in
Japan in the lead up to the Tokyo 2020
Olympic Games, they added.
At the Pokemon Go Park, the
festival's main venue, visitors on
Wednesday stopped by hoping to defeat
players of the augmented reality game
from Japan and beyond.
One player, 15-year-old Geoffery
Morris, said the area was so busy the
servers were often down.
The game became a global sensation
upon its release in 2016, breaking
records for mobile app downloads and
revenue. The game's developers say
that it has been downloaded 650 million
times world wide since its release.
9-year-old applies for alienfighting
job, NASA responds
A 9-year-old boy answered a call from
NASA to protect Earth from aliens -
and got an encouraging response to his
job application.
"My name is Jack Davis and I
would like to apply for the planetary
protection officer job," the fourthgrader
wrote in a letter. "I may be nine
but think I would be fit for the job. One
of the reasons is my sister says I am
an alien also I have seen almost all the
space and alien movies I can see."
The job advertisement for a planetary
protection officer explained that space
missions sometimes introduce Earth
organisms into other parts of the solar
system.
In technical terms, the officer
would assist with the "avoidance of
organic-constituent and biological
contamination in human and robotic
space exploration."
In bolstering his case for the job, Jack
explained in his letter, "I have also seen
the show Marvel Agents of Shield and
hope to see the movie Men in Black. I
am great at video games. I am young,
so I can learn to think like an Alien."
Although the position "may not be
in real-life what the title conjures up,"
NASA said it promotes "the responsible
exploration of our solar system by
preventing microbial contamination."
Jack received a letter from Dr. James
L. Green, the director of NASA's
planetary science division, saying the
officer position was "very important
work."
"We are always looking for bright
future scientists and engineers to help
us, so I hope you will study hard and do
well in school. We hope to see you here
at NASA one of these days!" Green's
letter says.
He also got a call from NASA's
planetary research director, Jonathan
Rall, to congratulate him on his
interest.
New Delhi : The Kapil Sharma show
has been struggling to regain its
position in the Television Rating
Points (TRP) as his former team
member and comedian Sunil Grover
quit the show after their infamous
mid-air tiff. After that, there had
been rumors that Kapil Sharma show
news doings the round that the Sony
contract for yet another year.
The news brings relief to millions
of die hard fans of Kapil Sharma who
has been following him since the Great
Indian Laughter Challenge 2007. But
this time the format and characters
of the show will be little different
as the show makers are thinking of
revamping the show. It is being said
that Kapil's show would take a break
soon and return with a new format and
in a completely different look.
According to the source from the
Kapil's team told DNA : "The current
format has run its course. Sunil
Grover and Ali Asgar's departure
and Bharati Singh and Chandan
Prabhakar's re-entry are not the issue.
We've realised that the entire show
needs a revamp."

law shouted at him in a harsh voice.
Father-in-law: Young man, you’re
coming to seek my daughter’s hand
in marriage and you’re chewing gum.
That’s a sign of disrespect!
Man: Sir, I only chew gum when I
drink or smoke.
Father-in-law: You mean you drink
and smoke, and you’re here to seek my
daughter’s hand in marriage?
Man: Sir, I only drink and smoke when
I go to the club.
Father-in-law: You club too?
Man: I’m sorry sir, I started clubbing
when I came out of prison.
Father-in-law: You’ve also been to
prison before? Oh my God!
Man: Sorry sir, I went to jail when I
killed someone.
Father-in-law: What!!! You’re a killer?
Man: Sir, I was angry because a certain
man didn’t allow me to marry his
daughter, so I killed him!
Father-in-law: Oh! Okay…. You know
what? You’re highly welcome my son.
You are on the right track. You’re
film programming, Leslie Cohen, is
also part of the latest leak alongside
a large number of confidential
HBO says it is reviewing what data
has leaked as part of an ongoing
forensic investigation.
Hot Bath!
Feeling edgy, a man took a hot bath.
Just as he’d become comfortable, the
front doorbell rang. The man got out of
the tub, put on terry cloth slippers
and a large towel, wrapped his head in
a smaller towel, and went to the door.
A salesman at the door wanted to know
if he needed any magazines. Slamming
the door, the man returned to the bath.
The doorbell rang again.
On went the slippers and towels, and
the man started for the door again. He
took one step, slipped on a wet spot,
fell, and hit his back against the hard
porcelain of the tub.
Cursing under his breath, the man
struggled into his street clothes and,
with every move a stab of pain, drove
to the doctor.
After examining him, the doctor
said, “You know, you’ve been lucky.
Nothing is broken. But you need to
relax. Why don’t you go home and take
a long hot bath?”

Lipstick is now the talk of the
The Bollywood actress Sunny Leone
celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a unique
Recently a movie released, Indian
film written and directed by Alankrita
Shrivastava and produced by Prakash
Jha. According to study, wearing
lipstick makes women feel smarter and
boosts cognitive performance.
Researchers, including those from
Harvard, are now studying what
is being called the ‘lipstick-effect.’
The term refers to a psychological
phenomenon whereby an individual,
who is wearing cosmetics, not only
feels physically attractive but also
experiences a heightened sense of
self-esteem, attitude and personality.
According to the study, the boost
in self-esteem also influences our
cognitive abilities in a positive way.
While doing the study, researchers
conducted a psychological experiment
among female graduates. Before doing
the test, one group applied make-up,
the other listened to a music excerpt,
while the third coloured a drawing of a
The Chainsmokers are coming to
India on Sep. 7 and PC might join
them for a gig.
For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra
has already collaborated with The
Chainsmokers, for a single—Erase—
which was released in 2014. And so,
since the time it has been announced
that DJ duo is coming to India,
speculations are widespread that they
might just team-up again for a gig.
Several celebrities including Alia
Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Malaika
Arora will be present at the event,
and several other artistes will also
be joining them on stage. There are
chances that PC might as well be
invited and would join them on the
stage for a gig because the Andrew
Taggart and Alex Pall have hinted on
the same.
“We don’t know any details yet. But
as far as a collaboration goes, you
never know,” Alex was quoted as
saying. The talks are going on, maybe.
“We don’t mean to sound ignorant
but we need to someone to break it
(Indian music) down for us. Maybe,
when we visit India, you can share
some suggestions,” Alex said while
revealed that he will meet a few of the
Indian artiste before their live gig.
The Censor Board has arrived just in
time to reportedly go chop-chop for the
actor's new film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
The Shree Narayan Singh-directed
movie was asked to make eight verbal
cuts before the film was cleared with
U/A certification, stated a report in
DNA. The cuts included editing out
certain dialogues by the 49-year-old
actor, which have been reviewed as
unsuitable by the Central Board Of
Film Certification, reported DNA.
Additional four cuss words have also
been edited out from the film by the
censor board. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is
set in two villages near Mathura and
highlights the poor state of sanitation
facilitation in the rural parts of the
country.
