HEALTHY LIFESTYLE · AUGUST 2017 When people talk about the subject of stem cells, the discussion often centers on the moral and ethical related controversies surrounding the use of embryos. In addition, there are also multiple issues & concerns associated with the possibility of transmitting DNA diseases to the recipient and even the concern of possibly developing a tumor called teratoma. However, there is a unique type of cell called Adult Autologous Stem Cell that can be successfully used to repair and regenerate damage tissues and can also be safely collected from the patient’s own stem cells (with no rejection and/or adverse type reaction). I recently had the opportunity to visit StemCell Miami, one of the most advanced stem cell institutes in the country, located in the heart of Miami, Florida. At StemCell Miami these potent cells are collected with special probes designed to maximize the collection of stem cells that especially have the necessary properties and/or capacity of heal. The entire procedure takes typically only around 25 minutes, is performed under sedation and the patient goes home about an hour after the procedure is completed.
