In order to stay abreast of an increased demand for tunneling
locomotives with low operating costs and optimum traction
force characteristics, Schalker Eisenhütte developed a 25 t
tunneling locomotive with a diesel-electric drive.
These locomotives are equipped with an electronic control of the combustion engine
performance.
This environment friendly and robust drive conception offers a maximum traction force
of 70 kN in the area from 0 up to 10 km/h. The fact that the drive motor is traction
converter controlled allows individual drive controlling. A fully fledged four quadrant
drive brakes the locomotive until standstill and so the use of the pneumatic spring
loaded brake is reduced to just taking over emergency stop and parking functions of
the locomotive.
A highly efficient slip and slide protection system guarantees the optimum use of the
available traction forces depending on the friction coefficient wheel-rail.
