Spring is just around the corner
and its time to start planning those

on Saturday and Sunday, February
21 and 22 at the Paso Robles Event
Center. There you will find over 100
local experts all in one location ready
to help you. This event is free (admission
and parking) to all attendees
so don’t procrastinate - get inspired,
get connected and start formulating
your plan for what your home will
look like in the future.
There will also be cooking demon-
strations, a wine and gourmet food
garden with award winning local
wineries and restaurants participating.
Food and wine tasting is just
$5 with the proceeds to benefit a
local non-profit. Open Saturday, 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m.

Nick Ruberto is celebrating 61
years as a barber and 25 years of
owning and operating perhaps the
best-known barber shop in Paso
Robles – Nick’s Barber & Hair Design.

says Nick, have far exceeded
his early childhood dreams.
“My dream was to be the
very best barber, husband,
and father that I could be,”
says Nick.
Growing up in Italy,
Nick explains, his family
was very poor and had no
money to send him to school. At
14, he worked on a farm from sun
up to sun down until his health
started to fail. Briefly working in
retail, he longed to learn barbering
after his father taught him to use a
straight razor.
He barbered in his hometown,
attended beauty school, moved to

South America to barber from
1955 to 1961, moved to the
United States, and settled in
Massachusetts where he met
and married his wife, Lee,
in 1964. They are parents to
Frank, Angela, and Nicole and
grandparents to three. Nick
ran a barber and beauty shop
in Los Angeles for 20 years before
settling in Paso Robles in 1983.
He’s earned numerous awards
over the years, including the Chicago
Magazine Barber of the
Year. Nick was employed for eight
years at the Paso Robles Youth
Correctional Facility as a barber
and says he’s reached every goal he
set out to accomplish.
At the age of 80, Nick currently
works three days a week – Thursday,
Friday, Saturday – and says,
“I’m not ready to give it up; I
have no thoughts of that.” Nick and
Lee enjoy traveling, spending time
with family, and making zinfandel
wine from grapes grown on their
ranch. Nick contributes to numerous
local organizations including
youth sports teams and his home
church, St. Rose.
