Take a look at everything that has
happened since our last letter.
All of the smaller news you don't
want to miss.

On June 23rd, the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Oklahoma County hosted the 3rd annual
Flight for Futures event in Valair Hangar 9 at
Wiley Post Airport.
We couldn't have asked for more perfect
weather in the midst of an Oklahoma
summer. Everything was a go and the event
"took-off" without a hitch!
The night started out with beer, cocktails
and food tastings from some of Oklahoma
City's finest local restaurants. As passengers
filled up on drinks and treats, games like cornhole,
jenga and ladder ball quickly became the
center of their attention.
As the night when on, party-goers put on their
goofiest attire and made the silliest faces as
our first ever photo booth made it's debut at
this year's event.
Luckily, this flight was turbulence free as
everyone enjoyed their evening among
friends, food, drinks and live music!
Towards the end of the night, 5 "lucky"
committee members received a pie-in-theface
by fellow volunteers and staff. Our brave
contestants included, BGCOKC President &
CEO Jane Sutter, Flight Committee
Members Jeff Kobs, Alison Travis and Matthew
Silver and our BGCOKC Board Chair Blair
Naifeh. All of this was in good fun as for each
face pied, $1,000 was raised for BGCOKC!
0 1
The night wrapped up with a groovy dance
party as guests celebrated the night's success
to the tunes of local band Souled Out.
BGCOKC would like to thank our 2017 Flight
for Futures Sponsors as well as everyone who
was in attendance for a wonderful night. Your
generosity exceeds our expectations and give
our club kids dreams the opportunity to take
"flight".
SUMMERTIME
“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy…”
Summer is the perfect opportunity to pick up a
hobby or learn something new. You can check
items off of your bucket list or do all those
things you never had time for like cleaning out
your closet and redecorating your room.
And I know that even though it's summer, we’ve
got millions of reasons to put off selfimprovement.
From assignments and jobs to
spending time with family and friends, the list
goes on. But our reasons shouldn’t stop any of
us from taking advantage of summertime.
I know that I personally have a million and one
things to get done this summer as well as things
I’d actually like to accomplish and begin. For
example, I started reading The Life-Changing
Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of
Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo.
Some of you may have heard of this book
because it’s very popular and some of you may
think it sounds extremely boring. But I promise
it’s not! It’s actually LIFE CHANGING.
So some of my “to do’s” include finishing this
book and attempting a minimalist lifestyle:
owning less but knowing and loving every item I
have. That’s cool and everything, but maybe
you’re not into that kind of thing? Totally fine,
there are tons of other books to read and plenty
of things to experiment with. That’s where the
beauty of summer comes in: if you’ve put
something off all year now’s your chance to get
it done or try it out! So think about your hobbies
and how you can take them to the next level or
different skills you’d like to learn. Let’s make
summer the best opportunity to learn and
improve ourselves in every aspect.
Hope you’ve been having a great summer!

The BGCOKC Board of Directors welcomed
7 new board members at its meeting on
June 12. They include Bill Citty, OKC Chief
of Police (pictured); Staci Felker of Ernst
and Young; Jennifer Fogg, TBS President
and former Club Kid; Anne Harris,
community volunteer; Susan Harroz,
community volunteer and president of the
Congratulations to all of our new Board
Members and welcome to the Club Family!
Volunteers from the Bank of Oklahoma took over the
gymnasium at the Memorial Park Club on April 18 to
teach Club Kids about financial literacy. Kids and
volunteers played a game called "Allowance", which is
similar to Monopoly, but with a greater emphasis on
sound money management. John Higginbotham, OKC
CEO of the Bank of Oklahoma even stopped in to
encourage the fun.
BGCOKC's Memorial Park Club was rocked
by a flood in late April. Restoring the
building to its original condition was no
easy task, but nothing is impossible in the
eyes of Mr. A Jaye! As soon as the building
flooded Mr. A Jaye and staffers went to
work lining the outside walls with sandbags
to direct excess water flow and prevent
more water from entering the building.
After weeks of hard work and repairs, the
Club is re-carpeted and is looking as good
as new. Thank you to everyone who worked
to get our Club back up and running!
On April 30, the day of the Oklahoma City Memorial
Marathon, Cultivar Mexican Kitchen donated a whopping
10% of proceeds to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma
County. A few staffers and Club Members manned their
stations in Cultivar, where runners could drop off their
personal belongings for safekeeping during the race free
of charge. Thanks for your support, Cultivar!
