Three Barrow tries in the opening ten minutes
and two in the last ten gave the scoreline a
lopsided look but the promotion-chasing
Raiders were always in control.
Head coach Lee Greenwood lamented the flat
performance by his side on their fourth trip to
Cumbria this season: “Credit to Barrow they
were very good. In spells we looked dangerous
but we came up with too many errors in
possession,” he said.
“Its hard enough coming up here but we gifted
Barrow far too much field position and they
punished us.
“Conditions were awful so it didn’t make for
a great game. We were well beaten and will
work hard in training ahead of Toronto.”
Barrow rattled off over a point a minute in the
early stages with tries from Martin Aspinwall,
Dec Hulme and Shane Toal and a Lewis
Charnock goal with the All Golds’ only reply
coming from a Jack Mitchell try converted by
Courtney Davies.
A second try from Toal and a Charnock
penalty after the half time hooter made the
interval score 20-6.
A Nathan Mossop touchdown was the only
score of the half until the final ten minutes
when Hulme and Ryan Fieldhouse went over
to keep the Raiders on the heels of the top two.

With Courtney Davies left at home injured and
Chris Barlow failing a fitness test, coach Lee
Greenwood gave Errol Carter his All Golds
debut and Shaun Owens his first start after
the half back debuted against Barrow. He was
also able to select Alex Gaskell for the first time
since late March.
But the All Golds could hold their heads high
after a committed performance which saw
them battle hard for the full 80 minutes and
score two tries, the second from Lewis Reece
worthy of a place on any highlights reel after
Joe McClean shrugged off two tackles in a
40 metre surge before finding Luke Stephens
in support, Reece looming at the youngster’s
shoulder for the scoring pass.
The Wolfpack continued their seemingly
unstoppable march to the Championship with
their 14th straight league victory achieved
in the manner of many others by powerful
forwards and exciting backs finishing clinically.
Their 11 tries were shared between ten players
but they could perhaps have had half a dozen
more as time and again superb goalline
defence from the All Golds prevented the
Wolfpack from adding to their tally.
Steve Parry had scored for the All Golds in the
first half but there were injuries to Danny Fallon
and the luckless Gaskell to contend with as the
All Golds battled hard, making the Wolfpack
work for their points.
Despite the defeat it was a great day for the
club who fully embraced the adventure of
a game across the Atlantic and created a
positive impression both on and off the field.
