About the Spencer Educational Foundation
Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. was established in 1979 to honor the late Robert S. Spencer, a
former Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS) president and vice president for Fuqua
Industries, Inc. Reflecting Spencer’s strong belief in risk management and insurance education, the
Foundation’s mission is to fund the education of tomorrow’s risk management and insurance industry
leaders.
Over the past 33 years, the Foundation has awarded more than $4.7 million in scholarships to
undergraduate and graduate students studying risk management and insurance as well as to risk
management professionals pursuing MBA degrees.
Since its beginning, Spencer Educational Foundation has granted $2.2 million in support of such
programs as the first Risk Management Challenge – held this year at Virginia Commonwealth
University, the development of loss prevention curriculum, summer internship grants, the RIMS
Enterprise Risk Management Conference and the Risk Manager in Residence Program.
