A man with a great heart, ever ready
to be touched and moved to action
by the sufferings of orphans, the
destitute, the sick, the lonely, the
unwanted.
A man with a tremendous capacity
for human love which impelled him
to offer his love and friendship; a
love which evoked love and devotion
from his Sisters, and amongst
them.
A man with a great capacity for
enjoying a celebration in which his
Sisters, and all the old people, and
the children they cared for, might
share. His journeys to the work-

house-convent in Argenteuil, to the
convent in Homerton, in Vienna
were always the occasion, on his
return, for such a welcoming fete ,
with a special meal, a glass of wine
for the elderly, games and songs for
the children. Still in existence, is the
huge banner listing the events for the
celebration on his last return from
Vienna to Argenteuil, a few months
before his death.
A man with an ever-increasing love
for God and for people ; utterly
human, yet utterly in love with
Jesus. Ever since that time in his
early years as a priest, at a Sacred
Heart convention, when he had been
seized, captivated, enraptured by the
Love of God poured out from the
Heart of Jesus, Father Braun had
longed to give love for Love.
It has been said of him : « Faithful to
the grace of his vocation, he had
grown in an intimate friendship with
Christ, living with Him and in
Him. » He longed to reveal to all the
world this Love of God which moved
him so deeply. To help to reveal this
Love is the purpose and end of his
religious Congregation ; and of this
little Band he said : « The Sacred
Heart is the Founder; I am only its
servant. »
