“The
Building a new
recreation center has
been a discussion in
Marinette for more
than a decade, and
the city began the
realization of this
dream recently
with the planning
of the ambitious
community project.
Somerville Inc. and U.P. Engineers & Architects Inc. laid
out the plans for the $16 million center in 2016, featuring
three main buildings: A community hall, consisting of space

committed $16 million to this project.
The 114k square foot facility is designed
to support various sports activities for
every age group. It will also have space
available for concerts, trade shows,
meeting rooms and more! ”

courts equipped
for basketball,
volleyball or
tennis; A turf field
surrounded by a
running track an
eighth of a mile
long; And an ice
rink with bleachers
seating equipped
with plenty of storage and
directly adjacent to locker
room areas. The three
buildings are connected by
a main hallway with meeting
rooms, concession stands,
seating areas and plenty of
natural light.
The building site is
located directly to the south
of Marinette High School on
Pierce Avenue. Fundraising
efforts through the M&M
Area Community Foundation
brought in support from all
corners of the region, with
local businesses and private
citizens graciously donating
to the cause. Bay Area Medical
Center (BAMC) of Marinette
and Aurora BayCare Medical
Center of Green Bay were
given the honor of christening
the building: “Community
REC Center — Recreation,
Education, Community.”
