MARINETTE - Bay Area Medical Center is in
the midst of building a brand-new hospital
facility on 90 acres of land it purchased off
University Drive in Marinette.
Groundbreaking was held in May 2016
for the new $135 million project, which
BAMC has partnered with Aurora Health
Care to construct.
The site will become home to a new,
three-story hospital with an expanded
Emergency Department, a Regional
Cancer Care Center, a new Women’s
Health Center, private patient rooms,
cardiology services and physician’s
offices. At the same time the new hospital
is being built, the Aurora Bay Area Health
Center on Old Peshtigo Road is being
remodeled to accommodate offices
for primary care physicians, X-ray and
laboratory services.
At the groundbreaking ceremony
in 2016, Tony Furton, chairman of the
BAMC board of directors, said the
board had spent “nearly a decade”
working toward this day.

“Good things come to those who wait,” he said,
providing a historical look back on the creation of the
original Marinette General Hospital in the 1930s and
the major renovations that followed in the 1970s.
Furton said plans for major changes
discussed in 2007 were derailed with the
recession and revisited in 2011.
Furton said that bonding has helped pay for
some of the project, but the majority of the funding
has come from BAMC and Aurora. There is no cost
to taxpayers for the construction.
“As everybody knows, the health care landscape
is changing rapidly. Our board is very proud of the
way we have anticipated those changes,”
Furton said. “We’re confident
