Thoughts
While the Ages Roll On
We all live once.
Life on earth is
too short. We live
each day as it comes, hoping
for a better tomorrow. I am
intrigued at how life is so
uncertain. All we do is hope.
Ages will roll on as stipulated
and a new generation
will be born.
Sometimes I look into the
future. Tomorrow, I will
wake up and carry on with
the day as I have always
done. The day will end and
another will come, and another
till a week will become
a month. In three months
from now, I will join Jomo
Kenyatta University of Agriculture
and Technology to
pursue my dream being an
engineer. That will be a nice
moment for me but I know
it will pass by. Five years
down the line, I will have
become what I dreamed of
years back. A new chapter
shall await me: life on my
own.
At 28, I will have identified
for myself a beautiful young
girl to be my wife.
I imagine how my wedding
shall be. That moment of
my life when I shall say “I
DO”. How for once I shall
be treated like a king by the
number of gifts of all sorts
that my friends shall give
me. Honeymoon shall follow
successfully. Then my wife
and I shall settle back to face
the reality of life. With time,
probably by 39, my family
shall be full: kids shall
brighten the house for sure.
I imagine how my 40s will
be: working well and climbing
up the ladder to become
successful, owning a multimillion-dollar
company,
being quoted as one of the
An outlook into my future
most influential people in
the financial world. I imagine
owning houses in major
cities in the world; talk of
London, Dubai, New York,
and Los Angeles and even in
our very own Nairobi. I look
into my 50s, how my kids
should have grown taller
than me. How good shall it
be?
My 60s shall tell me that my
end is approaching fast. If
lucky, I shall go into my 70s
and 80s. Eventually, my end
shall come. I can imagine
how my funeral shall be.
How my body will be taken
back to my home in the hills
of Nyamira.
I can
picture
my burial
ceremony.
What a glorious
day it shall
be. Heaven my
home: A place
with no sorrow,
no pain, no worries,
no deaths...
My eulogy
shall
be read:
“Clinton
Nyamongo
was
born in
Nyamira...
passed
through Eronge Adventist,
became the first boy to make
it to Alliance High School
from his village, he got his
engineering degree from
JKUAT, Master’s Degree in
Engineering from the Ivy
League (MIT)... became a
successful engineer, held
many positions. He has left
behind many descendants...”
The final words shall be,
“May his soul rest in peace.”
Then my journey down the
grave shall begin. Meanwhile,
mourners shall be
singing the last hymns to
send me off as I rest to await
the voice of the Archangel.
“When peace like a river
attendeth my way... It is well
with my soul...” shall be the
last hymn.
My relatives shall be downcast.
However, the dead have
no use for the living who
eventually tear themselves
away to continue with the
business of life. Even they
finally have to wander away
numb but waiting for a healing
touch of good memories;
of laugh and laughter, which
would eventually return to
touch them with the breath
of life once again.
Deep beneath the ground,
maggots will be feasting.
They will munch at
my expensive coffin.
They will wear
away my beautiful
body and eventually
to my bones. I
shall be no more.
The earth shall no
longer have a place
for me any more. I
will be forgotten.
Ages might roll
on. Centuries shall
pass by and then
the D-day shall come. The
day when my faith shall
be made sight. I shall hear
the voice of the Archangel
calling my name. “Clinton,
get up!” I shall get out of the
grave with a transformed
body filled with the glory
of God. That day I shall
reunite with my beloved
whom I left behind.
The journey shall take six
days. On the seventh day,
I shall enter the gates of
heaven. How beautiful the
heavenly view shall be: a
city of gold, a river of life
flowing without ceasing.
Then shall I meet my
savior. I will thank him for
by CLINTON NYAMONGO,
FoC Incoming Chairperson
all that he did for me: how
he left his throne above and
chose to endure pain and
suffering so that we may
have the chance of salvation.
I shall be happy to meet all
Bible heroes who inspired
me a lot. Talk of Abraham,
the father of faith; Moses, the
one who spoke to God face
to face; Elijah, one who was
taken away on a chariot of
fire, and many more others.
What a glorious day it shall
be. Heaven my home-a place
with no sorrow, no pain, no
worries, no deaths, no parting
with dear ones... I shall
live there forever with Jesus
my wonderful savior. There
shall be no evil or sin whatsoever.
Sin shall be washed
away completely. God, the
father shall be with me for
ages and endless ages... This
is all my imagination but by
faith, I shall be there. Just
like Paul, my life shall be
transformed from a sinner to
a servant of the Most High
God.
Though at my tender age of
18, I believe there is something
that I can do to hasten
the second coming of Jesus.
I can preach the gospel as
a testimony to all nations.
It all starts with me... while
the ages roll on, I’ll be with
the Lord for eternity in my
home: heaven.
Our Lord Lives
The Silence of the Empty Grave Speaks Loudest of our Risen Saviour
In the book From Jihad to
Jesus, Arnold Toynbee
writes, “Find the body
of that Jew, and Christianity
crumbles. No one ever
has. No grave in the world
claims one bone of the
body of Jesus Christ. Why?
He is risen!”
Death died at the birth of
that first Easter day. That
morning, it surrendered dominion,
was led captive and
humbled, made as it were
a shadow to flee before the
light, shining in darkness.
Because Christ died and
rose again we may die to
a sin-centred life and rise
again to a new life.
Saul who became Paul encountered
the risen Christ
on the way to wipe out
Christianity in Damascus.
With God, our greatest curses are turned into o;ur
greatest blessings. With God, the best is always yet
to come.
If God can take Paul’s imprisonment and use it to
write Galatians, Ephesians, Phillipians and Colossians
to bless the world, then God can write an epistle
in your life through the prison experience you
have gone through; for the best is yet to come.
Men tend to think that God is unfair in times of
trouble and trials. They tend to think they are alone
because God doesn’t seem to answer their prayers.
But one thing we should know is that when we pray
God says, “I have a better way!“
His resistance crumbled on
the instant of the encounter.
Imprisoned towards the
end of his life, Paul wrote,
“I am not ashamed of the
gospel, because
it is the power
of God for the
salvation of
everyone who
believes.” (Romans
1:16)
The cost of following
Christ
has always
been high. But
countless thousands
have paid
it. A motiveless
fraud would not
have sustained
the church
for two thousand years
through attacks, hostility
and denial. The Lord is
God knows best
