"I WORKED DAY IN AND DAY OUT ON MY
NEW FOUND PASSION."
" I ’ D W O R K T I R E L E S S L Y
T H R O U G H T H E N I G H T T O
W R I T E , D R A W , B R I N G I T A L L
T O G E T H E R "
I worked day in and day out on
my new found passion. I’d work
tirelessly through the night to
write, draw, bring it all together.
The people close to me started
to see my happiness again and,
more importantly, believed in
me, my vision and my new
product. I’m a superstitious
person so I researched my lucky
numbers for 2017 and found
that 7 was my number. Not that
it felt like it at the time because
it was also my youngest son’s
birthday. How ironic, the son
that was challenging me the
most, causing me all this
anxiety, tears and emotions
could actually be my lucky
charm.
I researched the market, sat up
late at night reading through
thread after thread on
Facebook groups to learn, i
asked questions, for help, built
relationships & connected with
people. I had prototypes
made & the response when I
started showing people
was amazing. It made me smile
again. .
I researched ways to
launch. Much like any start up
company, funds were lacking to
purchase or manufacture
thousands of units to get it to
market.
"IT WASN’T ALL
SMOOTH SAILING.
I HAD REJECTION.
I HAD PEOPLE
LAUGH IN MY
I’d read about Crowdfunding and looked into it. I
decided it was worth pursuing, & before I knew it I
was knee-deep in launching, but my self-doubt
started to kick in.
FACE"
“What if no one wanted to buy it?”
“What if no one believed in my product or vision?”
I got through it & I launched on the 7th July (7/7,
for good luck) via Pozible, an Australian
crowdfunding platform.
If you don’t know anything about crowdfunding
(depending on the platform you choose), if you
don’t reach your target - you don’t get your funds.
So that was my next worry.
But within 24 hours were
well underway of achieving
our target. I’d set the target
of $7000 dollars to get the
print run off the ground and
5 days later we had reached
that. I was ecstatic.
Considering I’d set the preorders
for 30 days, I had
been overwhelmed that I’d
reach the target so quickly.
It continued on, reaching
approximately $13,500
which allowed us (as a
company) to print more than
required and have more
available to purchase once
we received them.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. I
had rejection. I had people
laugh in my face. I had
people that just didn’t see
the vision or have the belief
that I did (and probably
because I was also still in a
frame of mind that didn’t
allow me to talk about how
this product helped me
through dark times in my
life) I wasn’t able to
communicate my authentic
story completely…until 12
months later.
