28 Lake Luzerne Celebrates the “National Day of the Cowboy” including the 5th Anniversary of Ranches, Rodeos & Wranglers” Program The Warren County Dude Ranch Trail captured generations of residents and visitors that grew up working or wishing they were part of the western rodeo culture that existed in each community since the late 1930’s to present. So not to be lost forever, a weekend of remembrance and recognition is planned and supported by resolution from the State of New York and the Town of Lake Luzerne and highlighting Saturday, July 22 as National Day of the Cowboy (www.ndoc.com). Thursday starts the “Kick Off’ with a Painted Pony Rodeo” at the Stony Creek Ranch Resort, Friday, begins at 9 am with Cowboy Coffee, Storytelling and a tour of the newly renovated Stony Creek Ranch Hadley aka 100 Acres Ranch Resort old timers that were there then, like Larry and Pete Bennett, John Beatty, Gerald Woodward, Jay Putnam, Mark Munzert, George Rafferty, Dale Aldrich, Dick Williams, George Staskos, Richard Renker and Bob Morin. BBQ and Rodeo both Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s is a full day with wake-up coffee early at Hadley Deli with more tale tales and then move over the Gailey Hill School House at High Noon for Awards and Colin Hagedorn’s famous Chili Hot Dogs. All cowboys and cowgirls and families. Inductees to the Adirondack Cowboy and Cowgirl Hall of Fame happens here. Evening concludes with the Rodeo Grand Entry and Inductees announcement, display table and exhibits. Credit goes to Earl Woodward for projecting and creating the Era of “Romance at the Ranch” that was so successfully marketed to the Metro City Gals. Earl created the “Hay Day” of dude ranches from 1940s, when the Post WWII - Baby Boomers searching for adventures, parks and playgrounds that were popping up all over. PAINTED PONY celebrates the opening of its 61st season on July 4th, and will continue throughout the summer with rodeos on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights from 8-10 p.m. The non-stop action features events sanctioned by the American Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) and International Pro Rodeo Association (IPRA) on Saturdays and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) on Wednesdays and Fridays. Experience the thrill of watching brave cowboys competing in bull riding, bareback riding and saddle bronc riding. Be impressed by the lightning-quick skills of the steer wrestlers, calf ropers, team ropers and breakaway ropers. Aspiring young cowgirls will get charged up by the speedy barrel racers as they fly around the barrels and gallop full-tilt toward “home.” It’s a night the whole family will remember for a long time to come. Before the rodeo starts, take in some authentic Texas BBQ at the Longhorn Saloon II from 6-8 p.m. For starters, try the Saloon’s Down Home BBQ Buffet. BBQ “only” pricing is $16 for adults, $6.50 for children 12 and under. After the rodeo, the kitchen will remain open from 10 p.m. to midnight with a light menu. Painted Pony also has a gift shop, candy store and concessions on the rodeo grounds. There have also been improvements to the Painted Pony complex, including “the new full cover over the grand stand.” For post-rodeo socializing, the Longhorn Saloon will be open until 2 a.m. The Saloon will feature Nightly entertainment starting at 10 p.m. Owner Shawn Graham has completed many improvements to the Painted Pony complex, including “The Longhorn Cafe”. In addition to operating Painted Pony, Shawn continues to maintain the long-term family business, Graham Hoof Trimming. With his lifetime of rodeo experience, patrons are guaranteed a professional, well-run operation when they visit Painted Pony. Admission fee for the rodeo is $16 for adults and $10 for children. Kids three and under are admitted free of charge. Painted Pony is located 5.4 miles west of Lake George on Route 9N South in Lake Luzerne.
