● IFR: Begin when<br />

departing the MDA or<br />

glidepath to the<br />

commencement of<br />

ground operations.<br />

● VFR: Begin at<br />

termination of VFR<br />

Navigation.<br />

● End with<br />

commencement of<br />

ground operations.<br />

64. Non-Precision Approach<br />

● Begins when<br />

established on a<br />

published portion of<br />

approach or cleared<br />

for the approach, or<br />

on radar vectors to<br />

final.<br />

● Ends at transition<br />

to landing<br />

environment or<br />

applying power to<br />

execute a missed<br />

approach/climbout.<br />

● Establishes proper communication<br />

and complies with appropriate ATC<br />

in a timely manner.<br />

● Once VMC, maintains a safe visual<br />

glidepath to the landing<br />

environment, allowing for safe<br />

visual maneuvering to a landing.<br />

● Follows visual approach guidance<br />

as appropriate, i.e., VASI, PAPI,<br />

etc.<br />

● If VASI/PAPI does not apply, then<br />

helicopter maintains a safe<br />

profile to either the runway<br />

threshold or short final for an<br />

appropriate helipad.<br />

● Performs IAW the FTI/INAV<br />

procedures and the applicable<br />

FAR/AIM.<br />

● FAF to MAP: Begins timing within<br />

±5 seconds if appropriate,<br />

±5 KIAS of approach airspeed,<br />

final approach course (FAC) ±5°<br />

and/or ±¾ deflection (±3 dot<br />

width).<br />

● Arrives at the MDA prior to MAP<br />

in a safe position to make a<br />

normal visual descent to land.<br />

● Maintains MDA +50/-0 feet.<br />

● Executes the missed approach<br />

procedure when applicable for the<br />

intended runway.<br />

● NDB final approach: Maintains<br />

±10° bearing.<br />

● ASR approach: Does not exceed<br />

“well left/right of course” and<br />

complies with the controller’s<br />

instructions in a timely manner.<br />

● GPS approach: Executes IAW<br />

current FTI.
