Activity 3.11 Closing Comments (10 min)<br />

Objective<br />

■ Review the day’s work and emphasize key concepts.<br />

Steps<br />

1. Briefly review the highlights of each activity completed. For example:<br />

■ discussing women’s access to resources within your community<br />

■ discussing skills and personal qualities needed to do this work<br />

■ reviewing various learning materials and discussing how you could apply what you learned in your<br />

work to prevent violence against women<br />

2. Briefly describe topics for Day 3:<br />

■ a hot debate that will allow them to practice their advocacy skills<br />

■ learning about the process of advocacy<br />

3. Ask each participant to briefly share how s/he felt about the day.<br />

4. Make any logistical announcements such as the start times for the evening activities and for<br />

Day 3.<br />

Activity 3.12 Warm-Up and Review (30 min)<br />

Objectives<br />

■ Reflect on the previous days work.<br />

■ Emphasize the continuity of the learning process.<br />

Steps<br />

1. Start with a game. Ask participants if they know any warm-up game. If a participant volunteers a game,<br />

ask her/him to explain it to the group and lead the activity. If there are no suggestions, use one of your<br />

own games or see appendix P for some suggestions.<br />

2. Briefly remind the participants (one or two sentences) about the work you completed on Day 1 and 2.<br />

3. Ask participants if they have any comments or views about the work. If a major issue emerges, negotiate<br />

a special time for in-depth discussion.<br />

4. Give a brief overview of the work for the day.<br />

Activity 3.13 Hot Debate: Do we need to have a ‘head of the household’? (2 hrs)<br />

Objective<br />

■ Practice advocating for women’s rights and violence prevention.<br />

Preparations<br />

■ For Part A, on a flipchart, write the following statement: “Women and men can never be equal. A man<br />

is the head of the household and the woman’s role is to serve and obey him!”<br />
