When you decide to let something go, you not only create space for something new to come into your psyche and your life; your body rewards you with energy! If we return to befriending our enemies from the Inner Smile, we release ourselves from carrying the burden of what no longer serves us, and we lighten our load and make more energy available for manifesting greatness in our lives. On a spiritual level, when you let go of what you no longer need, it’s as if air traffic control has sent a “cleared for takeoff” message to your soul. You are then clear, meaning you have sufficient inner space, clarity, and proximity to your intuition, to receive sacred messages from on high—to take flight. As we know, the mind has a tendency to glorify or regret the past and to anticipate or attach hopes and expectations to the future. Both states are unproductive and can lead to anxiety. This meditation is designed to help you release the future and the past and come into this present moment, while it also reminds you of all that you have to be thankful for, ushering in love and gratitude. On a higher level, a more spiritual plane, it also leads to a place where you can start to entertain the idea of saying goodbye to your body and your life, helping you to imagine a peaceful transition. As we move from the life we know into the unknown, we return to nature herself and what lies beyond. 1. Find your comfortable seat, letting your “sit bones” sink deeply into your meditation cushion or yoga block, and lift and lengthen the spine. Deepen your abdominals, gently pulling them in and back to provide a strong central support for your torso. Relax your arms down by your sides, bringing your palms to rest on top of your knees, and close your eyes. 2. Feel your strong legs underneath your hands as they release completely into the floor, which rises up to meet them. They are completely balanced and at ease, meeting in perfect harmony and effortlessness. 3. Bring your palms together in front of your heart into Prayer Position, uniting head and heart, and call in your spirit. Think of what you wish to manifest in this moment, not just here in your practice, but in your life. Breathe into your intention. Inhale and exhale several rounds until you intuitively know that you have come to own your intention, and then to seal it bow your head to your heart. 4. Inhale deeply, and to send your intention out into the universe, acknowledging your place and your power as a part the world and all things, chant “A-U-M, Ommmmm.” Once you have finished the sound, bathe in its healing current and let the vibration of the sound reverberate inside your every cell, infusing your cells with the enlivening frequency of the earth’s power itself. 5. Bring your hands into gyan mudra or the mudra that you feel best suits you and what your body needs when you are releasing something detracting from your life. Turn your palms face up. 6. With eyes closed, start to connect to your breath and where it lives inside your body. Using anapanasati, seek out any areas of greatest sensation and send your breath to them. Inhale new life into your every cell, and as you exhale let go of what you no longer need. 7. Now release your chosen mudra, allowing your fingers to softly open with the backs of your hands on your knees. Imagine that you are on the beach and have just scooped up a handful of sand. Watch your hand blossom like a flower as you gently open your fingers and let sand slip

through. 8. Inhale as you think of one thing that you wish to release from your life. Then, as you exhale, see it leaving your life, your body, and your mind just like the sand that has slipped through your fingers and the breath that you have released down into the earth below. 9. Inhale the new lightness in your heart that you feel when you think of the energy surrounding what you have just released from your life. Rest in this new energy you have liberated by courageously saying good-bye to something that was no longer serving your highest good. Breathe this new energy into the consciousness of your every cell and allow yourself to stay here bathing in this new light for several breaths. 10. Now breathe into your open hands and turn your attention to what you would like to usher into your life or what you would like to receive. 11. See this new energy coming in through your open hands, into your heart and into your life. Breathe the truth of this new life into your every cell. Open your heart even more to receive. 12. Shifting your focus, rub your thumb and fingers of your left hand together in small circles, as if you were sprinkling salt on a dish. In your mind, assign the past to the left hand. Think of the past and all the wonderful memories, certainly, but then also of the all-too-human regrets and disappointments, what you wish you could have done better, what you wish could have happened differently, and acknowledge the feelings that arise inside you. Feel how you are suddenly pulled out and away from yourself, whisked into times gone by, where you have no control, and allow yourself to be with the feelings that come up. 13. Now rub the thumb and the fingers of your right hand together in small circles. Assign the future to the right hand. As you do, think of all the exciting things that the future holds, bright promises and dreams coming true, and alongside the beauty see the clinging and the attachment to what you need to have happen, what you anticipate, and then feel the anxiety that surely arises when you allow yourself to be pulled ahead into a space and a time that don’t yet exist. 14. As you inhale, now bring the palms together into Prayer Position, bringing past and future together into the gift of the present moment, out of which greatest clarity is born—pure, clear space that you have created, perfect liberation, like the sound “AUM,” the sound of divinity itself. Bathe in this sacred moment where you are one with your own true nature, your timeless soul essence that knows no attachment, no dissatisfaction over impermanence, no suffering, but the highest wisdom of no self and perfect, infinite transcendence, at one with all that is and ever will be. 15. Rest in this moment; open your heart and allow it to receive this clear light, the energy of infinity, true and endless love. 16. Now bring your hands into Open-Heart Mudra. As you breathe now, inhale love and exhale gratitude, remembering what you surrendered and what you ushered into your life, and feel the energy that is rising up inside and swirling around inside you from this courageous, self-loving act. Allow yourself to be swept into the currents of this profoundly healing and enlivening energy, deep inside this sweetness, softness, and light. 17. Send your breath now from the crown of your head down to your root, like a cleansing waterfall, sending new life and new energy to every part of your body. As your breath, energy sweeps down and through you, releasing what you no longer need into the earth below. Inhale and relax even more deeply now, as you effortlessly reach even slightly taller, lengthening your crown up

9. Inhale the new lightness in your heart that you feel when you think of the energy surrounding what<br />

you have just released from your life. Rest in this new energy you have liberated by courageously<br />

saying good-bye <strong>to</strong> something that was no longer serving your highest good. Breathe this new<br />

energy in<strong>to</strong> the consciousness of your every cell <strong>and</strong> allow yourself <strong>to</strong> stay here bathing in this<br />
