finished, bathe in its healing current. Let the vibration of the sound reverberate inside your every
cell, infusing your cells with the enlivening frequency of the earth’s power itself.
6. Place your hands on your knees again, so that you feel even more rooted to the earth, and with
eyes closed start to connect to your breath and where it lives inside your body. Perform
anapanasati: take a tour of your body, starting with the crown, working your way down to your
feet, and then returning up the back of your body to the crown, to seek out the areas of greatest
sensation and send your breath into them; inhale new life into your every cell, and as you exhale
let go of what you no longer need.
7. Now summon the image of your favorite tree. See it standing tall and proud. See its trunk and the
portion of the roots that ride along the carpet of the earth, and imagine where the roots travel. See
them extending into the rich, black soil below. Then allow your eyes to travel up to the tree’s
branches, its leaves, flowers, berries. Now be the tree, sending your strong roots down to
connect with the nourishing energy of earth.
8. From the roots, rise up through the trunk of that tree and see its magnificent markings, the etchings
of time recorded on its bark, and go inside, imagining its rings. See them there spiraling around
the center. How many rings are there? How old is that tree? Now be the trunk of that tree, and as
you breathe let your breath build you up and out expansively, like a tree that has lived for at least
a few hundred years. Feel the immense and stalwart strength and solidity of your torso, your
trunk. Breathe into your strength. Breathe into your rings.
9. Now lengthen the crown of your head and become the graceful bows and branches of the tree, its
leaves and flowers, reaching their energy up toward the sky to receive the blessings of the sun
and the showers from the clouds, the rays and droplets of precious water falling upon you,
anointing your head. Feel the powerful, pulsating life force of universal prana vibrating inside
you and connecting the two poles of the world and your body, deepest yin from earth and highest,
most infinite yang from the sky.
10. As you breathe, send your breath from the crown of your head down to your roots like a cleansing
waterfall, sending new life and energy to every part of your body. As your breath and energy
sweep down and through you, release what you no longer need into the earth below. Inhale and
relax even more deeply now, as you effortlessly reach even slightly taller, lengthening your
crown up to meet heaven energy, and letting Mother Earth rise up to meet you, infusing your body
and soul with her healing earth energy.
11. Bring your palms together in front of your heart once again, and return to the intention that you set
at the beginning of the practice.
Blossoming Lotus
Inner Smile practice. If there is a particular emotion out of balance, or you aren’t feeling well in a
specific part of your body, now that you are on intimate terms with your chakras, you can select one
particular chakra to focus loving attention on until you feel a palpable energy shift and a clearing in it.
This powerful meditation opens, clears, purifies, and balances all seven chakras, bringing your
