130 INTERVIEW Mikaili Sol: "I’m only 12 and I’m ready for the World Tour!"

you are also a good reader. What kind of books or stories do you like the most? Who is your favorite books' character? do you like to write as well? My favorite books are usually cliff hangers or mysteries because you never know what is going to happen in the end. It is hard to pick a favorite book because I have read so many good books. If I had to choose today, I would say my favorite book is The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. The House of the Scorpion is a science fiction novel. It takes place in a place called Opium. The main character Matt is a young clone of a drug lord called "El Patrón." This story is about the struggle to survive as a free individual. You like horses. Have you ever met a seahorse? or any other animal while riding in the water? There are many places where I live that you can go and see the seahorses. I don't think it is possible to see a seahorse while kiting because they are so small. I have only seen seahorses in the mangroves. While kiting, I have seen sea turtles and big fish. Once I saw a huge sunfish! It was a little scary! reinaldo taught you how to kite. do you still meet him? What does he tell you about your growth as a rider? did he expect you to be so fast and good at learning how to become an athlete? Reinaldo was one of my teachers when I was first starting freestyle. He doesn't live by me anymore so I don't get to see him very often. When I saw him last year, he was very proud of the progress I had made! My very first teacher was Felipe, and he always sees me on the beach and stops to talk about my competitions and progress. Now that your level of riding is pretty high, who is your coach and how do you learn the new tricks? I am currently being coached by my mom. My mom was a high level gymnast so she relates most of my tricks to her gymnastics experience. She helped me learn how to spin faster, taught me to look where I want to go and how to spot my landings. She doesn't always know how to help me with the kite position. I get tips from other riders when it comes to that. Also this year, I got to spend a couple of weeks with Fabio Ingrosso. I learn new tricks by crashing and trying them over and over again. Before I go on to a new trick or add another 180, I make sure that my base trick is 100%. It is very important for me to be very consistent with my tricks in all conditions because you never know what the conditions are like during competitions.
