WHO: Brought to you by the same twentysomething
folks behind Koki Tamagoyaki, a humble kiosk hawking
fluffy Japanese omelettes and creamy choux puff
pastries at the basement of Raffles City Shopping
Centre, which opened last year.
WHAT: Nesuto is Koki’s far fancier sibling. Its name
means ‘nest’ in Japanese, and it follows the same
egg-centric moniker of its sister outlet (Tamago is ‘egg’
in Japanese) and hopes to invoke “a sense of home
and family”. We’re not sure about familial tidings, but
if sweet endings are what you’re craving, this is the
stop. This dainty and chic month-old 22-seat patisserie
is a toothsome shrine to all things sweet and creamy.
Unfortunately, Koki’s wonderful choux puffs aren’t
available here. Instead, Nestuo’s 29-year-old pastry chef
and co-ower Alicia Wong, who used to ply her craft at the
Capella hotel’s pastry kitchen, serves elegant “fusion”
cakes with mostly Japanese and French influences. The
café has also partnered with home-grown tea brand,
Antea Social, to provide Asian tea pairings, which it
DAYS
believes complement its delicate sweet treats better
than Western teas.
THE LOOK: Prettily decorated with shades of dusty
pink, grey and accents of gold and marble, Nesuto’s
feminine modern interior is as aesthetically pleasing as
its desserts. Hand-painted floral motifs dress up the
walls and an air well lets in plenty of natural light into
the long, narrow space. Glass panels allow you to peek
into the kitchen to watch the chefs at work.
