Wang Zhao admits to the<br />
King that he killed the monks<br />
and set the temple on fire<br />
so as to protect Queen Liu<br />
from being framed for the<br />
assassination.<br />
The King does not punish<br />
Wang Zhao. The latter is<br />
shunned by the rest. Only<br />
Xie Shu dares to deliver<br />
food to him.<br />
Mingyi falls ill and has<br />
to remain in bed. She asks<br />
Wang Xu to take a second<br />
wife as she is too ill to<br />
perform her duties as a<br />
wife.<br />
Xie Shu instructs Cailing<br />
to put the hairpin Wang<br />
Zhao had left behind back<br />
into his room. Princess<br />
Yanhua walks into the room<br />
and sees Cailing holding<br />
the hairpin. She accuses<br />
Cailing of stealing and whips<br />
her.<br />
Xie Shu steps forward<br />
and takes responsibility for<br />
the act. She gets whipped.<br />
Wang Zhao goes to her<br />
rescue and declares Xie Shu<br />
belongs to him.<br />
Disguised as a<br />
commoner, 14th Prince<br />
Wang Zhen is fighting<br />
with thugs in the<br />
marketplace. He is<br />
dragged away by some<br />
men when his true identity<br />
is discovered. Xie Shu<br />
tries to save him but in<br />
vain.<br />
Meanwhile, Princess<br />
Yanhua mentions to her<br />
mother, Queen Wangfu,<br />
that Mingyi has asked<br />
Wang Xu for a divorce.<br />
Queen Wangfu objects<br />
to the divorce. She<br />
does not want to appear<br />
ungrateful to Mingyi’s<br />
family, whose support had<br />
helped her gain power in<br />
the palace.<br />
Wang Xu comes to<br />
Wang Zhen and Xie Shu’s<br />
rescue. He gains the<br />
upper hand initially but is<br />
gradually outnumbered. It<br />
is only when Wang Zhao<br />
arrives that the attackers<br />
disperse in fear.<br />
The Crown Prince<br />
makes an official request<br />
to the King to permit<br />
Wang Zhao to stay in the<br />
palace. The King has<br />
doubts about Wang Zhao’s<br />
loyalty, as he is aware<br />
that Queen Liu and<br />
Wang Yao are eyeing the<br />
throne.<br />
Wang Zhao assures<br />
the King he will give up<br />
his royal status and<br />
pledges to be a filial<br />
subject. At Zhimeng’s<br />
advice, the King accedes<br />
to the request.<br />

Wang Xu presents Xie Shu<br />
with a poem that describes<br />
a man feeling anxious<br />
about how a woman he<br />
loves feels towards him.<br />
She doesn’t understand<br />
the hidden message.<br />
Mingyi is happy Wang Xu is<br />
making a move.<br />
Xie Shu accompanies<br />
Wang Xu and Mingyi into<br />
the palace. She is in awe<br />
of its grandeur.<br />
Mingyi coughs up<br />
blood in Queen Huangfu’s<br />
presence. Knowing her<br />
days are numbered, she<br />
begs the queen to allow<br />
Xie Shu to marry Wang Xu.<br />
